TITLE: ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL – HIGH SCHOOL (10 MONTHS)

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters or Doctoral Degree in Education. 
  2. NJ Principal Certificate (CE, provisional or standard)
  3. Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience.  Elementary experience and/or experience as a Vice Principal, teacher coach, Lead Teacher, or similar educational leadership experience preferred.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of effective principles of teaching and learning. 
  5. Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills with demonstrated initiative, leadership and business ethics and a demonstrated ability to motivate others.
  6. Ability to work as a highly functional member of an administrative team.  
  7. Pass mandatory pre- employment physical, including drug screening in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4
  8. Pass mandatory criminal history screening in accordance with 18A:6-7.1.
  9. Consistent attendance as defined by the New Jersey Department of Education.
  10. Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google and general computer skills.
  11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

 

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

 

SUPERVISES: All personnel as assigned by the principal.

 

JOB GOALS: The Assistant Principal aids in the administrative operation of the total school program to assure that the educational needs of the students, staff and community are met and supports the Principal in providing supervision throughout the building during school hours and as part of extracurricular and community activities.   






PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Assists the principal in duties related to instruction, supervision, evaluation, and the overall administration of the school, including summer programs, credit completion and alternative education programs.
  2. Assists in the development and coordination of the building’s instructional program and including student attendance and credit attainment.
  3. Serves as the building administrator in the absence of the principal.  
  4. Completes all mandated training as established by the NJ Department of Education (NJDOE) and the professional development plan from the curriculum and instruction office.
  5. Supervises and evaluates professional and non-certificated personnel as directed by the principal, including classroom observations, review of lesson plans, Professional Improvement Plans, corrective action plans, etc.  
  6. Assists the principal in the selection and onboarding process for new staff.  
  7. Assists the Principal in planning, organizing, scheduling, directing and evaluating all school activities, including field trips, and extra-curricular activities, and participates in all such activities as directed by the Principal or as required by the demands of the position.
  8. Prepares or supervises the timely preparation of all assigned reports, records, lists and other paperwork appropriate for the school’s administration, including harassment, intimidation and bullying (HIB) reports, School Safety Data System information, etc.  
  9. Assists in planning and supervising mandated activities such as fire drills and emergency preparedness/safety compliance programs.
  10. Assists in establishing guidelines and maintains high standards for student conduct, equitably and positively enforcing discipline as necessary according to the due process rights of students.  Utilizes the approved software for tracking student discipline and prepares reports when necessary.
  11. Submits monthly discipline reports to the principal.
  12. Maintains and prepares inventories of school property and oversees the security of that property as directed by the Principal or District-level administration.
  13. Coordinates and chairs various building committees as directed by the Principal
  14. Together with the Principal, schedules, maintains and supervises the assignments and responsibilities for staff.
  15. Routinely supervises the lunchroom, hallways and stairwells. 
  16. Supervises and coordinates staff for detention and all afterschool activities.
  17. Oversees the harassment, intimidation and bullying (HIB) process in coordination with the building principal.  
  18. Assists in scheduling, administering and coordinating State testing in conjunction with the building principal and guidance personnel.  
  19. As directed by the principal, conducts weekly building inspections with lead custodian and submits reports of the same to building administrator and superintendent.
  20. As assigned by the principal or other district administration, chairs various committees designed to foster and improve school climate.
  21. Together with the Principal, serves as a coordinator between local law enforcement agencies in all matters related to the school environment.
  22. Attends PTA meetings, Board of Education meetings, concerts, etc. when necessary and/or requested by the building principal.
  23. Maintains active and positive relationships with supervisors, students, staff, parents and the community.
  24. Works cooperatively with the principal in developing student schedules and the proper placement of students.
  25. Reviews and refreshes the Student Handbook and Faculty Handbook yearly.
  26. Serves with parent, faculty and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
  27. Works with Principal in development of building budget and assists principal with the requisition and distribution of supplies and instructional materials for the building.   
  28. Oversees the equipment inventory for the school and coordinates the necessary documentation for any disposal.
  29. Checks daily attendance of students and determines causes of prolonged absences and works in conjunction with the school attendance officer and district attendance officer.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:  Light work:  Consistent attendance, respectful
                                                                          demeanor toward others.  May lift, push, or pull 

                                                                           25 pounds. Ability to be mobile within the
                                                                          building and the grounds.  May need to intervene
                                                                          in physical altercations with students.  



TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:               Ten-month position.

 

EVALUATION:                   Performance of this job will be evaluated in         
                  accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy
                  on the Evaluation of Administrative Personnel by
                  the Superintendent of Schools.

 

 

 

SALARY & BENEFITS:                   Penns Grove- Carneys Point Regional Teacher Negotiated Agreement

 

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE:            $92,000-110,500
