TITLE: Lead Direct Support Professional
SUPERVISOR: Residential Manager/ Assistant Residential Manager
PURPOSE: To use best practices and technology within a community based
residential setting to teach people with developmental disabilities how to
acquire the physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills needed to live
as independently as possible.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Driver’s license valid in the State of NJ with good driving record
- Shall be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Complete and successfully pass Drug Testing, Criminal Background Check, Central Registry, CARI and are subject to random drug testing or for at cause drug testing.
Employee must cooperate with the licensee and Department staff in any inspection, inquiry or investigation.
REQUIRED SKILL LEVEL:
- The ability to exercise good judgment and use common sense.
- The ability to remain calm in crisis situations.
- The ability to interact with a wide range of people.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Works a flexible 40 hour week. May be assigned to one or varied programs.
- Assists individuals, as necessary in daily living skills.
- Completes training with individuals toward IHP goals.
- Reviews monthly documentation such as Fire Drills, Menu’s, and vehicle logs.
- Assist in IDT meetings when needed along with provide feedback to management on clinical care and needs of an individual.
- Attends conferences, seminars and training relevant to the position.
- Administers medication and completes documentation of same.
- Accompanies individuals to and from appointments and activities.
- Builds a support network between the individuals and community members.
- Accurately completes all in-house documentation
- Participates in Circle(s) of Support for personal futures planning.
- Completes all duties as delegated by the Residential Manager/Assistant Residential Manager.
- Must successfully complete and demonstrate proficiency in all areas of required training.
- Perform any and all duties requested of supervisor.
INITIATIVE REQUIRED:
Fulfillment of the job responsibilities takes place in the residence and in the community.
Work is reviewed by the supervisor according to the policies of PENNREACH, INC. This review includes such things as random site visits, systematic assessments, and employee evaluations.
Direct Support Professional must be able to train individuals with developmental disabilities in public environments, exercise patience, work with a flexible schedule and respond to crisis situations.
The position also requires the full use of good judgment and common sense during daily affairs, whether at or away from the residence. Professional communication and appropriate language, whether written or oral, is essential in everyday activities. This communication may be with any person involved in the life of the individuals living in the home. Ingenuity and creativity must be utilized when determining the best training methods, assistance and supports for an individual.
