What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Service Technician 1 position at Pennington County?
The Building Service Technician 1 provides building maintenance through custodial and preventive care. By utilizing the assistance of inmate/client/detainee workers, the Building Service Technician is able to maintain the designated facilities according to high standards.Essential Functions:
- Direct inmate/client/detainee workers and contractors in proper methods of care and cleaning inside and outside of the facility.
- Clean and care for the facility as directed.
- Perform repair tasks, such as carpentry, painting and plumbing.
- Perform repairs on hand tools, power tools and equipment, and address simple electrical problems.
- Supervise laundry and maintenance work to ensure assigned duties are completed.
- Provide input on maintenance budget, both current and future.
- Maintain records relating to facility care and maintenance.
- Monitor tool and chemical inventory.
- Order supplies as necessary.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain compliance with all county policies and procedures.
- HS Diploma or GED required.
- One year of work experience in building maintenance preferred.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid South Dakota Driver’s license within 90 days of moving to South Dakota
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively on telephone, in-person and in writing.
- Must be able to sit, walk, stand, climb, balance and use hands and arms to reach and feel.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
- Work is performed in an office or correctional facility.
- This position may be exposed to machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, wet condition and occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Work may require the use protective devices, such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
- This position will include close interactions with inmates/detainees/clients.
Shifts:
- 1:30 PM – 10:00 PM Tuesday–Saturday
- 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM Sunday–Thursday
