At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Research at Pennington Biomedical is supported broadly by multiple NIH Research Centers, and includes approximately 65 faculty and 20 postdoctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories and 13 highly specialized core service facilities. Pennington Biomedical is located within state-of-the-art research facilities on a 222-acre campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Job Description:
The Clinical Research Specialist will be responsible for assisting in the execution of human subjects in the Clinical Metabolic Surgery Lab. Daily responsibilities include maintaining the clinic schedule, recruiting potential study participants, contacting study participants, ascertaining informed consent, obtaining outcome measures in healthy adults such as anthropometrics and body composition, dietary and physical activity information, and questionnaires, data entry and communication with the project manager and other team members to ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines and integrity of the study protocol.

Job Description:

Job Responsibilities (List essential duties and responsibilities to accomplish the job.)
- Conduct clinical trial study visits from preparation, data collection, chart processing, and data entry and cleaning
- Communicate with prospective participants to explain study information and determine participant study eligibility
- Perform clinical research data collection activities including but not limited to: informed consenting, anthropometrics and body composition measurements, dietary and physical activity assessments, and administering questionnaires
- Perform research activities outside of data collection including but not limited to: scheduling appointments, making reminder calls, paperwork processing, data entry, and resolving data queries
- Comply with safety and good clinical practice guidelines and following research study protocols
- Communicate with the project manager and other team members and participate in team meetings
- Interact and maintain professionalism and flexibility in communicating with study research participants
- Prepare study materials including advertisements, clinic appointment checklists, telephone and screening scripts, and study forms
- Perform clerical duties such as typing, filing, and conducting phone calls
- Other duties as requested to support on-going clinical trials or longitudinal studies within the research group.
- To be considered for Research Specialist 1 - Bachelors of Science in Biology related field required.
- To be considered for Research Specialist 2 – Master’s Degree required.
- Experience performing clinical research assessments in human subjects such as informed consent, anthropometric measures, and source documentation data capture
- Exemplary organization and writing skills.
- Detailed oriented, multitasking, proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and able to learn and use new computer programs quickly and effectively.
- Work typically performed within a typical clinic setting or business office.
- Primary location is onsite at Pennington Biomedical Research Center with occasional travel within Baton Rouge and surrounding areas.
