About Us:

At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Research at Pennington is supported broadly by multiple NIH Research Centers, and includes approximately 65 faculty and 20 postdoctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories and 13 highly specialized core service facilities. Pennington Biomedical is located within state-of-the-art research facilities on a 222-acre campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Job Description:

Summary Description (overall Purpose And Objectives Of The Position)

The Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a research facility of Louisiana State University, seeks a qualified and motivated applicant as a Research Associate to provide support for a clinical and translational research program focused on sleep and cardiometabolic health. He or she will actively participate in all ongoing research of the laboratory.

Job Responsibilities (List essential duties and responsibilities to accomplish the job.)

  • Clinical studies: These responsibilities include maintaining sleep lab supplies, overnight monitoring of sleep studies, and coordinating scheduling sleep studies, etc.
  • Basic science studies: Conduct in-vitro and ex-vivo experiments. These duties include but are not limited to cell culture, western blot, RNA analysis, confocal imaging etc;
  • Lab and data management

Additional Duties:

Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor or Master degree in biology, chemistry or similar field required
  • Experience in basic lab skills including cell culture, Western blot analysis, RNA analysis and confocal imaging is required.
  • Proficiency with standard software such as Word, Power point, Excel, etc and willingness to learn new software applications for image analysis, biostatistics etc.
  • Good communication and problem solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn new clinical lab skills including sleep studies, oximetry etc

Physical Abilities (Describe physical demands pertinent to job, i.e. standing, walking, lifting, etc.)

Work will require moderate amount of standing and walking for research procedures. Sleep studies would require sitting for long hours.

Working Conditions (Particular working conditions, i.e., working environment, hours of work, travel, etc.)

Will require flexible work hours including overnight work schedule
