Will perform nurse practitioner duties and assume responsibility and accountability for medical assessment of research participants. The role of this position is to provide patients with direct healthcare and perform research procedures under the supervision of a licensed physician.
Job Responsibilities: (List essential duties and responsibilities to accomplish the job)
- Schedule laboratory studies, diagnostic procedures, and explain to volunteers the necessary preparation, nature and anticipated effects of protocols to the patient.
- This individual will serve as assistant to the Director of Nursing in supervising all services’, functions and activities of the nursing staff working in the inpatient clinic.
- Perform histories, physicals, biopsies, IV procedures, and other protocol specific procedures on participants.
- Oversee clamp procedures, will sign off on medical orders and give verbal orders when necessary.
- Prescribe medications listed in the approved institutional formulary as a function delegated by the physician consultant(s) to the practice.
- Provide anticipatory guidance, screening and health education to patients to promote and maintain health.
- Will be responsible for interpreting policies, procedures, standards and regulations for personnel, patients, medical staff and the public.
- Compile budgets for upcoming studies and track expenses incurred by the inpatient unit.
- Other daily functions may include adjusting staff for adequate coverage, consulting with directors or other clinical administration on staffing needs, serving as a clinical resource and professional role model, investigator of complaints of patients, nursing staff and medical staff.
Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Extensive computer and software utilization skills
- Ability to efficiently work and interact with personnel at all levels within the organization
- Masters’ Degree in Nursing, possession of current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Louisiana, and Board Certified as an advanced Practitioner of Nursing (ANA, NAACOG, NAPNAP, ANCC, AANP).
- Experience with reading/assessing EKG’s, phlebotomy, and IV skills required.
- At least three years’ experience in an clinical setting preferred.
- At least two years’ experience in direct clinical research to include clinical protocol and consent development and implementation preferred.
- Tasks require variety of physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting and reaching. Continuous talking, hearing and seeing is required in the normal course of performing the job.
- Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity required to perform some essential functions.
- Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, and creative problem solving.
- Work performed within a typical clinic setting during standard weekday hours. Evening and weekend hours may be required under special conditions.
- Occasional travel may be required in normal course of job performance.
