Fitter / Welder
The Fitter is responsible for day to day fit-up of miscellaneous steel fabrications in preparation for welding. The Welder is responsible for strict conformance to approved weld procedures in accordance with the approved shop drawings for the project and adherence to strict quality control requirements. All roles allow the employee to take directions from the shop manager and to work independently as well as with others while within the fabrication facility. The roles are also expected to have good communication skills, maintain standard safety procedures and have a general knowledge and background of working within a fabrication facility in the past.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a clean and safe working environment at all times including reporting safety concerns to shop supervisors in real-time
- Must be able to read, review, and interpret shop drawings utilized for fabrication with attention to detail for quality assurance
- Works with and maintains shop equipment utilized for steel fabrication
- Works independently and with others as required
- Works with the shop manager to review scopes and performs tasks assigned
- Utilize overhead cranes to assist with the lifting of heavy structural steel items utilized during fabrication
- Operate hand and power tools as required in general steel fabrication including but not limited to tape measures, magnetic drills, grinders, cutting torches, etc.
Qualifications
- Reliable team player with a “can do attitude” willing to join a competitive, fast paced fabrication facility
- 2 years’ experience for welders
- 2 years’ experience for fitters
- Welders will be subject to weld test prior to full employment
- Welders should have MIG, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW welding experience, but willing to learn all if not experienced
- Good communication skills
- General working knowledge of equipment utilized in a steel fabrication facility including but not limited to plate processors, drill lines, angle masters, shears, brakes and punches
- Past experience utilizing CNC controls for equipment programming a plus
