AutoCAD Structural Steel Detailer

PennFab, Inc. is seeking an experienced AutoCAD Structural Steel Detailer to join our Engineering team in Morrisville, PA. The ideal candidate will have prior structural steel or miscellaneous metals detailing experience, strong AutoCAD skills, and the ability to independently produce accurate, fabrication-ready shop drawings from engineering and contract drawings. Experience with Tekla Structures or other 3D modeling software is a plus but not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently prepare accurate structural steel and miscellaneous metals shop and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD.
• Create detailed assembly drawings, part drawings, connections, welds, bolts and material specifications.
• Review and interpret structural, architectural and engineering drawings and project requirements.
• Ensure drawings are accurate, complete and ready for fabrication.
• Identify and resolve drawing discrepancies, fabrication issues and required revisions.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers and shop personnel to address detailing and fabrication questions.
• Assist with material takeoffs, bills of material and related documentation as needed.
• Manage multiple detailing assignments and drawing revisions while meeting project schedules.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of structural steel or miscellaneous metals detailing experience.
• Strong AutoCAD 2D skills with the ability to independently produce fabrication-ready shop drawings.
• Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural and engineering drawings.
• Solid understanding of steel fabrication, connections, welds, bolts and materials.
• Ability to identify drawing discrepancies and resolve fabrication issues.
• Familiarity with AISC detailing and fabrication standards.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working directly for a structural steel or miscellaneous metals fabricator.
• Familiarity with AISC detailing and fabrication standards.
• Experience with Tekla Structures, SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software.
• Knowledge of connection detailing, material takeoffs and CNC fabrication processes.
• Experience with rail, bridge, transit or other heavy structural steel projects.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for an experienced detailer who understands that the end product is not simply a drawing. The information produced by Engineering must allow our shop to fabricate steel accurately and efficiently.

The ideal candidate has hands-on structural steel detailing experience, strong AutoCAD skills and a thorough understanding of how steel is fabricated. This person should be comfortable working independently, identifying potential fabrication issues and coordinating directly with our Engineering and production teams.

PennFab works on a variety of complex structural steel and transportation infrastructure projects, including bridges, rail and catenary structures, stations, canopies and other custom steel fabrication. This position offers an opportunity to work on challenging projects while contributing to the continued development of our Engineering department and 3D modeling capabilities.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
