Under regular supervision of Manager, Tooling and Automation, analyzes specifications, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools following established procedures. Uses proper techniques to ensure personal and equipment safety as required.

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of tool & die experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings and schematics, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to correctly perform basic shop math, simple trigonometry and Statistical Process Control calculations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to identify and solve practical problems dealing with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Plans, constructs, alters and repairs a wide variety of tools, jigs, dies, fixtures and gauges to very close tolerances.
- Performs development work, difficult tool room operations, skilled fittings, timing and adjusting.
- Plans construction procedures and methods and selects materials.
- Makes allowances for shrinkage during heat-treating of tools and metal flow in dies.
- Makes tool tryouts.
- Follows all departmental procedures to ensure quality requirements are met.
- May be required to work overtime as business conditions dictate.
- Diagnoses and corrects trouble in complicated dies and tools.
- Performs other duties as required.
