PennEngineering is seeking a motivated, excited, individual to be a part of the PennEngineering Sustainability Team as a Sustainability Engineer, you’ll collaborate with teams that do truly amazing things. The Entry-Level Sustainability Engineer supports the company’s global environmental and sustainability initiatives within a precision manufacturing environment. This role helps design and implement sustainable manufacturing practices, improve resource efficiency, and ensure compliance with environmental standards. The position is ideal for an early-career engineer passionate about integrating sustainability into modern production processes.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Support the development and execution of the company’s sustainability strategy in alignment with corporate and customer goals.
• Collect and analyze environmental performance data, including energy use, water consumption, emissions, and waste.
• Assist with implementing waste reduction, recycling, and energy efficiency initiatives within the production environment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, Legal, HR, EHS, and Quality) to identify sustainable materials, processes, and technologies.
• Support life cycle assessments (LCA) and carbon footprint calculations for precision components and manufacturing operations.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on reducing environmental impact and increasing operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
• Assist in preparing sustainability reports, metrics dashboards, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
• Stay current on industry trends, standards, and innovations in sustainable manufacturing

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Sustainability Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Master’s is highly preferred.
• Internship or co-op experience in manufacturing, engineering, or sustainability preferred (but not required).
• Familiarity with precision manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, metal finishing, assembly) is a plus.
• Demonstrated Project Management experience is desired.
• Knowledge of environmental standards and certifications (ISO 14001, GRI).
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Working knowledge of sustainability metrics, energy management, and environmental compliance.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS THAT WILL HELP YOU BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE:

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data visualization tools; experience with CAD or process modeling software is a plus.
• Experience with com, Qlik, and AI tools is helpful
