Physical Therapist- Early Intervention

The Early Intervention Physical Therapist provides family-centered, evidence-based physical therapy services to infants and toddlers (birth to age 3) with developmental delays or disabilities. Services are delivered in natural environments, including the child's home, childcare setting, or other community locations. The Physical Therapist partners with families and caregivers to enhance each child's functional motor development through coaching, education, and individualized intervention strategies that support participation in daily routines and activities.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct developmental evaluations and assessments to determine eligibility and identify motor development needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized intervention plans in collaboration with families and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide physical therapy services using evidence-based, family-centered, and coaching-based practices.
  • Support caregivers in embedding therapeutic strategies into everyday routines to promote functional motor development.
  • Monitor child progress and modify intervention strategies as appropriate to meet individualized outcomes.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation, including evaluations, progress notes, service logs, treatment plans, and required program documentation.
  • Participate in Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) meetings and collaborate with service coordinators and team members.
  • Consult and collaborate with occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, developmental specialists, educators, physicians, and other professionals involved in the child's care.
  • Educate families regarding child development, positioning, mobility, equipment, safety, and home programming.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and agency regulations, policies, and professional standards.
  • Participate in staff meetings, required trainings, and continuing education activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Doctorate or Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist.
  • Experience working with infants, toddlers, or pediatric populations preferred.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required background clearances.
  • CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of infant and toddler development and pediatric physical therapy practices.
  • Understanding of family-centered and coaching-based intervention models.
  • Strong assessment, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with electronic documentation and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with diverse families and caregivers.

Work Environment

  • Services are provided primarily in homes, childcare settings, and other community locations.
  • Frequent local travel is required.
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate family availability.
  • Combination of independent work and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, bend, and transition to and from the floor.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 pounds.
  • Assist children with positioning, transfers, mobility, and therapeutic activities.
  • Demonstrate physical stamina necessary to provide intervention in a variety of natural environments.
