SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Portfolio Manager is a senior leader in the Enterprise Project Management Office.
The Portfolio Manager plays a critical role in overseeing and optimizing the portfolio of strategic initiatives across the healthcare organization. This individual ensures alignment between projects, programs, and organizational goals, driving value delivery, resource optimization, and risk mitigation. The Portfolio Manager partners with executive leadership, clinical and operational stakeholders, and project teams to ensure successful execution of initiatives that enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and financial performance. The portfolio manager will be responsible for all initiatives within their specific portfolio and/or may lead a large strategic initiative for the organization.
Working under limited supervision, manages and leads all aspects of the most strategic, high-risk and complex enterprise-wide strategic programs impacting enterprise core business process reputation and/or revenue and involving multiple organizational business units in transformation.

Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Oversight & Governance
- Lead enterprise-wide transformation initiatives that align with the organization's long-term strategic vision.
- Manage the intake, prioritization, and lifecycle of strategic initiatives within the specified healthcare portfolio.
- Facilitate portfolio governance meetings and ensure alignment with organizational strategy.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to ensure initiatives support clinical, operational, and financial goals.
- Evaluate project proposals for strategic fit, ROI, and resource availability.
- Monitor portfolio performance metrics and provide executive-level reporting.
- Mentor, coach, evaluate and train more junior project leaders in their adoption of project methodologies and related toolsets.
- Lead large complex initiatives that may span multiple missions across the organization and involve varying business areas (i.e. facilities, IT, operations) and process redesign
- Drive project team performance, motivation and outcomes in a dynamically changing environment
- Maintain and apply knowledge of applicable industry best practices in program/portfolio management
- Assess resource needs across the portfolio and coordinate with department leads to ensure adequate staffing.
- Identify and resolve resource conflicts and constraints
- Proactively identify portfolio-level risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Escalate critical issues to leadership with recommended actions.
- Manage portfolio budgets, forecasts, and actuals.
- Support business case development and benefit realization tracking.
- Serve as a liaison between project teams, business units, and executive sponsors.
- Communicate portfolio insights, status, risks, and recommendations to executive stakeholders.
- Manage complex vendor contracts and sourcing arrangement within program/portfolio
- Identify management structures for projects/programs and secure required management involvement
- Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field
- Five (5) years of portfolio, program or complex project management, preferably in healthcare, experience required.
- Project Management Professional Certification or equivalent
- Master’s degree
- Experience working in a complex, matrixed healthcare organization.
- Ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Strong financial acumen and strategic thinking.
- Emphasis on benefit realization
- Experience managing vendor contracts / sourcing arrangements.
