Summary:

The Behavior Specialist role is a salaried position that will be assigned to select community homes to provide intensive behavioral supports and consultation. This position will work a 40-hour workweek across five days and due to the nature of the position, it may be required that this position works more than 40 hours without further compensation. Additionally, the Behavior Specialist position is required to work various shifts to provide appropriate clinical/behavioral supervision including evenings, weekends, and nights based upon the clinical needs of the program. The Behavior Specialist may serve in on-call rotations and/or receive crisis management referral calls. This position will also receive mileage reimbursement and a phone/on-call stipend.

Purpose:

The primary responsibility of the Behavior Specialist is to provide intensive behavioral supports and consultation to residential house staff including teaching, training, and modeling of prescribed intervention strategies. Additionally, the Behavior Specialist is responsible for the ongoing development and oversight of consumers’ individualized Behavior Support Plans. This position will provide intensive behavioral support to individuals diagnosed with Intellectual Developmental Disability and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder in addition to working with the residential staff and providing consumer-centered, family-focused meetings. The Behavior Specialist is expected to be adept at working with individuals who engage in challenging behaviors (e.g., self-injurious and aggressive behaviors). The Behavior Specialist will identify individualized behavioral goals and intervention strategies utilizing strengths-based, least restrictive, and least intrusive clinically grounded approaches. Additionally, the Behavior Specialist will serve as the lead clinician in providing crisis management support while coaching residential staff on evidence-based, best practices in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. As needed, this position may provide regular sessions with families/identified support persons to increase skill acquisition while maximizing involvement and progress toward identified goals.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in applied behavior analysis, psychology, social work, counseling, education, or a closely related field.
  • Licensed candidates preferred: Licensed Behavior Specialist (LBS), Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience directly supporting individuals with an Intellectual Developmental Disability and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder and other comorbid diagnoses.
  • Minimum 2 years of conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (Practical/Standard functional analyses and variants) including data analysis.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ongoing development, implementation, and monitoring of consumers’ behavior and treatment plans.
  • Provide regular clinical supervision to residential staff.
  • Responsible for identifying behavior goals and intervention techniques, transferring those prescribed interventions to the residential staff members and ensuring consistency/compliance by all staff members.
  • Monitor the compliance of residential staff members in meeting organizational and regulatory requirements and expectations.
  • Provide regular feedback to residential staff members as well as initiate corrective actions when necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate data tracking to monitor consumer progress and assess effectiveness of specific treatment strategies.
  • Teaching, training, and modeling of behavior support plans to facilitate acquisition of skills by all team members.
  • Provide ongoing assessment, program design, and implementation of the treatment plans.
  • Provide consultation to the multidisciplinary team members on aspects of behavior support.
  • Responsible for identifying and facilitating monthly staff trainings on consumer-driven topics in collaboration with the Program Managers.
  • Responsible for completing required documentation in accordance with provider regulations.
  • Participation in ISP and IEP meetings, inter-agency planning meetings, as well as other relevant exchanges of clinical information as requested and assigned.
  • Conduct consumer-centered, family-focused meetings to assist in skill acquisition, enabling the family to maximize their involvement and progress with overall treatment goals.
  • Attend regular supervision.
  • Participate in various treatment plan meetings.
  • Complete a minimum of six training hours per year related to clinical assessment and treatment strategies.
  • Must be able to identify with and support the agency's mission and vision statements.
