Mechanic Helper

Penn Pallet is looking for someone to assist in our maintenance garage. This person will work directly with our lead mechanic assisting with the maintenance & records keeping of all but not limited to: PPI trailers, PPI Tractors, yard trucks, loaders, snowplow equipment, personnel lifts, and forklifts.

Essential Functions

• File maintenance logs for trailer inspections/registrations according to Federal, State and local code as well as Company expectations.
• Maintain registration cards, insurance cards in each piece of equipment.
• Order new and return trailer plates as necessary.
• Maintain all trailers – painting, welding, fixing doors, wiring, brakes, tires and etc.
• Trailer inspections – certified brake repair
• Maintain tire inventories
• Maintain parts inventories
• Maintain tool inventory and keep area safe and organized.
• Minor Service on tractors.
• Ensure snow plow equipment is ready to go when needed

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Must know and understand company policies regarding maintenance including safety trainings.
• Must have knowledge of equipment and all maintenance requirements
• Having general knowledge of grinding, welding, acetylene torches and painting.
• Must be willing and able to respond to requests for maintenance work orders
• Follow a program for routine maintenance on all equipment
• Willing and able to respond to request for call in time
• Must be willing and able to work extended hours as necessary, including Saturdays if needed.
• Possible early starts to maintain building, yard, and equipment during winter months.
• Work with the Safety Committee in meeting all safety standards
• Self Motivated – able to foresee problems when faced with them. Cannot depend on someone to tell you what to fix.

Education & Experience

Required:

High School Diploma

Trade School Diploma

2 Years experience in a mechanical maintenance position preferred.

Physical Requirements

This position can be a physically demanding job, depending on the project. Must be able to bend, lift, twist, and walk, for the duration of the shift. Jobs will be performed in extreme weather conditions at times with exposure to dust and noise on a daily basis.
Mental Dimensions

This position requires constant decision making abilities based on knowledge of the field. Must be able to prioritize needs of the facility, and respond in a timely manner. Must be able to communicate with the plant manager, employees and direct supervisor.
