Summary:


  • Under the direction of the Director of Public Safety, the Public Safety Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, staff, physicians, and vendors at Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital. This position requires a high level of professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to balance safety, regulatory compliance, and compassionate customer service in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

    The Security Officer is responsible for proactive patrol operations, emergency response, access control, and the enforcement of hospital policies while supporting Penn Medicine's mission of providing safe, high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities:


  • Conduct routine and special patrols of hospital buildings, parking facilities, and grounds to deter criminal activity, identify hazards, and ensure the safety of all occupants.
  • Operate and monitor weapon detection systems in accordance with hospital policies and established safety protocols.
  • Utilize video surveillance technology (CCTV) to monitor hospital environments, detect suspicious activity, and support investigations.
  • Operate and support access control systems, including badge systems, visitor management tools, and secured entry points.
  • Emergency Response & Incident Management
  • Respond promptly and professionally to emergencies including medical events, fire alarms, security threats, workplace violence incidents, and disaster situations.
  • Apply approved de-escalation techniques to manage emotionally charged or potentially volatile situations with patients, visitors, or staff.
  • Assist with restraint techniques when necessary, following hospital training, policy, and legal standards, while prioritizing patient and staff safety.
  • Support hospital emergency preparedness plans, including drills and real-world activations.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations into security incidents, safety concerns, policy violations, and reported crimes.
  • Prepare accurate and timely incident reports, statements, and administrative documentation in compliance with department standards.
  • Preserve evidence and coordinate with hospital leadership, Human Resources, Risk Management, and law enforcement as required.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador of Penn Medicine, providing courteous assistance, directions, and information to patients and visitors.
  • Maintain a calm, respectful, and empathetic demeanor while interacting with individuals under stress.
  • Support a healing environment by resolving concerns professionally and respectfully.
  • Manage traffic control during peak hours, emergencies, construction projects, and special events to ensure pedestrian and vehicle safety.
  • Provide security coverage for sensitive situations, including high-risk patients, behavioral health cases, and workplace violence concerns.
  • Enforce hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations consistently and fairly.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, federal, and healthcare regulatory standards.
  • Support accreditation, audits, and regulatory inspections related to safety and security operations.
  • Complete required administrative tasks, including reports, logs, access requests, and system entries.
  • Participate in ongoing training, certifications, and competency assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical staff, leadership, facilities, and external responders to support hospital operations.

Credentials:


  • Driver's License (Required)
  • Class C Driver’s License
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • CPI NCI/APS (Within 6 Months of Hire)

Education or Equivalent Experience:


  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • 3 years Security/ Emergency Services experiences preferred
