Summary:

  • The per diem Mammography Technologist at Pennsylvania hospital performs a variety of imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols and functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishments of their imaging needs. This role acts as a skilled, competent professional providing excellent customer service skills. The person in this position must be able to communicate effectively and understand government regulations, JCAHO, and HIPAA requirements pertaining to the operation.

Responsibilities:

  • EQUIPMENT: Responsible for the utilization of Mammography equipment to insure care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and the use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients. Responsible for the safe operation of equipment and images. Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedures. Exhibits skill sets to demonstrate proper use of equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of troubleshooting. Comprehends and completes the established quality control on equipment. Demonstrate proficiency with all mammography equipment and attachments. i.e. spot compression devices.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department. Represents the hospital in a positive and professional manner. Adheres and upholds PEOPLE standards according to the hospital. Shows compassion and kindness toward patients and family members. Interacts professionally and effectively communicates with peers, physicians, patients, visitors and guests. Participates in programs/committees beneficial to departmental, hospital and health system improvement.

EDUCATION: Possess knowledge and exhibits competency of procedures performed in the department and is able to appropriately respond to questions/concerns the patient or family may have. Must attend all mandatory in-services and staff meetings to maintain competency training.Assists in the training of students and ancillary personnel. Completes annual educational requirements to maintain license.

CLINICAL: Instructs and prepares patients for roentgenographic examinations. Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures. Assesses patient’s understanding of process and informed consent of invasive procedures. Assesses, evaluates and informs physician of changes in patient’s conditions during exam. Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly. Prints x-ray images as needed.Produces adequate studies and radiographs in a quick and efficient manner. Perform daily QA, monthly crossover visual check and assist physician during invasive procedures Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and general population. Maintains ALARA standard.

CLERICAL: Efficiently operates the RIS system and understands scheduling protocols for the dept. Exhibits superior phone skills.Assists in maintaining basic records and reports. Assists in maintaining files. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.Provides proper documentation for patient exams. For example: Orders, pregnancy, allergies, mobility, diagnosis, DOB, referring physician. Records proper documentation on the patient’s request after each mammography procedure, Breast US, or Dexa Scan

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT: Performs quality control on required equipment. Actively participates in performance improvement and continues quality improvement activities.

SAFETY: Demonstrates and maintains rules and regulations of TJC and the State of Pennsylvania DOH. Adheres to safety program of Pennsylvania Hospital and the Department of Radiology. Is aquatinted with local fire and safety regulations. Maintains clean work area.

Credentials:

  • ARRT Certified Mammography (Required)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Education Specialization: Equivalent Experience:
  • Other (Required)
  • Education Specialization: Graduation from AMA approved school of Radiologic Tehcnology Equivalent Experience:
  • 0-1 years related experience
