Pennsylvania Hospital is seeking a Diversion Prevention Specialist to join the team.
Summary:
- The Diversion Prevention Coordinator (DPC) role is responsible for oversight of controlled substance (CS) accountability and compliance relative to provision and coordination of data, benchmarking, audits, inventory control, and resolution of discrepancies including follow up and reconciliation. The DPC will monitor all CS activity from receipt to administration and waste. The DPC identifies and manages risk points impacting all clinical and procedural areas under the PAH license including CPUP, to assure legal compliance and business continuity. The DPC partners with Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical, Quality, and Human Resources leadership to assure regulatory and legal compliance related to CS. The role supports patient safety and experience related to CS medication management as well as employee engagement related to best practices and just culture. Compliance in all areas supports business continuity and mitigates financial risk associated with theft or loss and associated fines/sanctions.
- Manage all proactive diversion reports to identify potential risks. Collaborates with interprofessional leadership to address all issues. All diversion prevention activity is performed in conjunction with pharmacy, nursing, and medical leadership, as appropriate.
- Reviews CS activity daily in decentralized automated dispensing machines. Monitors all CS activity from receipt to administration and waste. Troubleshoots CS related errors including cabinet errors.
- Identifies and reports CS risk points and audits all risk points on a regularly defined schedule. (Applies to all CS locations under the PAH license). Reviews systems and identifies areas for improvement on an ongoing basis.
- Reviews Anesthesia activity and audits cases to ensure appropriate use. Sends appropriate communication for outstanding issues..
- Ensures that all recordkeeping is stored, filed, and formatted according to departmental policy and regulatory requirements (e.g. DEA 222).
- Educates internal and external customers regarding safe and compliant CS processes.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred.
- H.S. Diploma/GED and 3 years pharmacy technician experience required.
- 1 years’ experience with pharmacy automation - i.e. Experience with Omnicell, Pyxis, Pandora, Swisslog Robotics, Alaris required.
- Bachelors degree preferred.
- Experience handling controlled substance or inventory /supply chain preferred.
