Job Description
To perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the physician, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend his services through the more effective use of his knowledge in the sphere of decision-making required to establish diagnosis and to plan therapy. He/she may assist in gathering the data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the physician. A major role will be as a patient's advocate in the medical care system serving as confidant, advisor and liaison between patients and physicians. Assists the surgeon in the preoperative care and work-up of patients. Participates in postoperative care of patients, being especially knowledgeable in the recognition of postoperative complications. Performs therapeutic procedures and assignments as directed by the surgeon and as indicated by his/her training and experience.

- Education: B.S. degree in a physical science and have graduated from an accredited institution. Must be gradute of an accredited Physician Assitant or Nurse Practioner program. Must complete training and be certified on both BLS and ACLS.
- Experience: Two years recent experience in critical care prefered.
- Other Skills: Must be certified or eligible by the NCCPA and Pennsylvania State Board of Medical Education and Licensure.
- Knowledge of pre-existing conditions that may affect surgical procedure.
- Basic understanding of major medical complications and their treatment.
- Basic understanding of major surgical complications and their treatment.
- Knowledge of surgical patient postoperative management.
