Summary
The School Psychologist provides comprehensive psychological services to students, including assessment, consultation, intervention, and prevention services. This role works collaboratively with school staff, parents, and community agencies to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of students.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations to assess students’ cognitive, academic, social, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
- Administer and interpret a variety of assessments, including intelligence tests, achievement tests, behavioral rating scales, ADOS, and functional behavior assessments.
- Analyze assessment data and write comprehensive reports with clear recommendations.
Consultation:
- Consult with teachers, parents, and administrators regarding students’ learning, behavior, and mental health needs.
- Provide recommendations for interventions and accommodations to support student success.
- Participate in student academic support teams and Individualized Education
- Program (IEP) meetings.
Intervention:
- Provide individual and group social skills instruction to students with a variety of needs, such as anxiety, depression, social skills deficits, and trauma.
- Support teams in the development and implementation behavior intervention plans for students with challenging behaviors.
- Collaborate with school staff to implement evidence-based interventions and supports.
Prevention:
- Promote positive mental health and well-being for all students.
- Support teams in the development and implementation of school-wide programs to address issues such as bullying, substance abuse, and suicide prevention.
- Provide crisis intervention services as needed.
Other:
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Stay current with best practices in school psychology.
- Adhere to ethical principles and professional standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in School Psychology from an accredited program.
- Valid state certification as a School Psychologist.
- Preferred experience working in a school setting.
Physical Requirements and Sensory Abilities
- Appropriate keyboarding skills
- Proficiencies with technological communication tools including, but not limited to word processing, internet access and utilization and the full and effective use of the district's email software
- Ability to communicate well at all organizational levels
- Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks and decision making
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to form appropriate relations and to work as a team member
- Repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding
