Penn Machine Company, a Marmon Group/Berkshire Hathaway Company, is seeking a passionate and experienced Gear Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing team in Johnstown, PA (relocation support available for candidates located outside our local area).

- Be our subject matter expert in gears
- Design, develop, and optimize gear manufacturing processes (machining, hobbing, grinding, heat treat)
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to ensure quality and performance
- Select tools, materials, and machines for gear production
- Design fixtures and special tooling to support manufacturing
- Lead and support continuous improvement and Lean initiatives to support gear manufacturing
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and operations teams to resolve challenges
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for gear-related issues
- Stay current with industry trends, gear standards (AGMA, ISO), and emerging technologies
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related engineering field
- 3 years’ experience in gear manufacturing or related fields
- Experience with gear design preferred. Heat treat and metallurgy experience are pluses.
- Solid understanding of gear types (spur, helical, bevel, etc.) and gear cutting methods
- Familiarity with CNC machines, CAD/CAM, and gear design software
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills
- Lean manufacturing experience; Black Belt certification a plus
