What are the responsibilities and job description for the SR CT TECH +$20,000 sign on bonus position at PENN HIGHLANDS HEALTHCARE?
Operates CT scanners to provide quality imaging of the body while following radiation
standards and department protocols. Assists the radiologist/physician during studies.
1. Performs routine and emergency computerized tomography scans upon request
from physicans by entering patient data into the computer, workstation and injector
to the correct setting for each procedure, complete pre-scan preparation (check
creatinine. pregnancy status. contrast allergies/pre-medication. need for oral
contrast, etc.), properly adjust correct exposure settings, post procedure processing
(which may include MIP images or workstation processing).
2. Selects proper positioning devices. Maintains a thorough working knowledge ofthe
operation of all equipment in the CT area. Monitors ionizing radiation producing
equipment for proper working order and safety.
3. Applies working knowledge pertaining to CT anatomy and pathophysiology to
produce a high standard of quality imaging.
4. Sets up sterile equipment. Assists radiologist in biopsy, drainage and other medical
procedures.
5. Obtains patient clinical history by way of personal interview and/or review of
patients' charts. EMR or outside studies. Obtains correct and current lab values,
allergies and other reports required for the study.
6. Prepares and administers oral and intravenous contrast agents according to
protocol as prescribed by the physician. Instructs the patient on use of contrast
agents including screening for allergy, contraindicated medications. contraindicated
medical conditions (including use of insulin pumps), as well as providing post
contrast instructions. Educates and instructs patients pertaining to CT
examinations.
7. Operates the contrast injector for intravenous injection.
8. Performs appropriate venipuncture and angiocath insertion as needed.
9. Interprets information considering age specific needs. Uses age specific
parameters when selecting radiation dose for exams.
10. Cleans and maintains equipment and stocks supplies pertaining to CT
examinations.
11.Uses medical information systems, HIS, RIS. and PACS. Is able to transfer medical
images and track exam progress.
12. Provides knowledge to patients and hospital personnel in regards to radiation
safety. Provides orientation and training to staff and students.
13.Works positively with all customers to promote patient, employee and physician
satisfaction.
Must have ARRT registration required
Must have CT certification
