Duties
Auto Body Painter Technician A/B
Prepares, masks & refinishes body parts & bodies of vehicles
Operates all body shop equipment
Selects & mixes paint to produce desired color
Selects appropriate products & additives for atmospheric conditions
Finish, sand, & buff as required
Inspects for quality
Prepares & spray bed liner applications
Adheres to use of safety & health personal protective equipment
Maintains shop equipment/tools & a clean workspace
Performs other duties as required
“A” Tech produces 125% flat rate time standards
“B” Tech produces 105% flat rate time standards

- Prepare vehicle surfaces by sanding, masking, and priming to ensure optimal paint adhesion and finish quality
- Apply paint using airless spray guns, power tools, and hand tools with precision and attention to detail
- Conduct auto body repairs including welding and metalwork to restore structural integrity before painting
- Buff and polish painted surfaces to achieve a smooth, glossy finish that meets quality standards
- Perform auto glass replacement and repair as needed during the restoration process
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols for handling paints, chemicals, and equipment
- Assist with vehicle detailing and minor mechanical tasks to support comprehensive vehicle restoration efforts
Skills
- Proven dealership or automotive shop experience as an auto body paint technician or similar role
- Strong welding skills for repairing damaged panels and structural components
- Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems and maintenance procedures
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and specialized auto painting equipment such as airless sprayers
- Experience with auto body repair techniques including dent removal, filling, sanding, and finishing
- Expertise in auto painting processes including color matching, blending, buffing, and polishing
- Knowledge of auto glass installation and auto estimating procedures is a plus
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely during parts replacement or vehicle handling
- Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with clients about repair progress and expectations
- Familiarity with auto restoration projects and mechanic experience is advantageous
