Job Summary:
The Hostler is responsible for the safe movement of trailers and containers within the yard and to dock doors for loading and unloading. This position plays a key role in maintaining yard organization, supporting efficient operations, and minimizing trailer downtime.
Key Responsibilities:

Move trailers in and out of dock doors and staging areas using a yard tractor or terminal truck.

Inspect trailers before moving to ensure safety and compliance (lights, tires, etc.).

Maintain accurate yard inventory and trailer location logs using handheld or onboard systems.

Communicate with dispatch, warehouse, and gate personnel to coordinate trailer movement.

Secure trailers with chocks or dock locks as needed.

Perform basic preventative maintenance checks on hostling equipment.

Ensure all safety protocols and procedures are followed while operating in the yard.

Report any mechanical issues or yard hazards immediately.

Support loading/unloading operations during high-volume periods as needed.
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).

Valid driver’s license required; CDL Class A preferred but not required (based on yard equipment used).

Prior experience operating a yard hostler truck or terminal tractor (1 years preferred).

Familiarity with DOT and OSHA safety standards.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment in varying weather conditions.

Good communication and organizational skills.

Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit, stand, bend, and walk for extended periods.

Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.

Comfortable operating heavy equipment in tight spaces.
