About Peninsula Bridge: Peninsula Bridge is a non-profit organization that transforms the lives of highly motivated, low-income students by preparing and supporting them for success in college preparatory high school programs and four-year colleges through out-of-school, social-emotional, and academic learning programs.

Description: The instructors will lead workshops for 20–25 high school students per session using the Peninsula Bridge High School Academy Curriculum. The curriculum is designed to promote high school readiness and success while developing college access and college readiness skills through the integration of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and Executive Functioning skills.

Goals and Objectives for our 11th-grade programming: The goals and objectives for 11th graders are designed to strengthen college and career readiness, develop essential academic and AI literacy skills, and support students in exploring and preparing for their postsecondary pathways.

  • Strengthen college readiness skills by preparing for the PSAT, understanding college expectations, and exploring pathways after high school.
  • Develop college and career awareness by researching majors, connecting academic interests to future goals, and completing a college major exploration project.
  • Build responsible and ethical AI literacy skills by learning how to use AI tools effectively, critically evaluate information, and apply AI responsibly for academic and career exploration.
  • Explore and pursue postsecondary opportunities by engaging with college reps and summer opportunities through fairs and research activities.
  • Develop academic success strategies by strengthening study habits, test preparation skills, and approaches for managing high school coursework

11th Grade Program Session Breakdown

Session Focus & Activities

September

PSAT Preparation: PSAT preparation sessions led by AJ Tutoring, with teachers providing student support and assistance throughout the program.

October

College Fair: Support student participation in the College Fair to explore colleges, programs, and postsecondary opportunities.

November

AI Literacy & College Major Exploration: Deliver AI Literacy Lesson A focused on responsible AI usage. Introduce college majors, discuss the importance of selecting a major on college applications, begin a College Major Exploration Assignment, and use MagicSchool AI for college and career research.

December

Finals Study Support: Provide academic support and study strategies to help students prepare for final exams.

January

AI Literacy & College Major Exploration Continued: Deliver AI Literacy Lesson B focused on ethical AI usage and support students in completing their College Major Exploration Assignment.

February

Summer Opportunity Exploration: Prepare students for the Summer Opportunity Fair and support student participation in the event.

March

Community Engagement Support: Support staff and students during Community Service Day.

May

Finals Study Support: Provide academic support and study strategies to help students prepare for final exams.

The High School Cohort meets eight times during the academic year (September–May, excluding April).

All lesson materials and resources will be prepared and provided by Peninsula Bridge. Instructors are responsible for reviewing all program communications (including monthly lesson plans, newsletters, and other updates) and arriving fully prepared for each session. They will facilitate engaging small- and whole-group activities that build students' academic, social-emotional, and college access skills in alignment with the curriculum.

Instructors will report to the Director of High School Programs. In addition to direct instruction, instructors are expected to participate in preparation huddles and debrief sessions before and after each workshop. A mandatory teacher orientation will be held at the Peninsula Bridge office in August. All required dates are listed below.

Key Competencies

  • Seasoned, credentialed high school teacher with demonstrated expertise in high school instruction and student development.
  • Proven excellence in teaching in a public school or independent school setting.
  • Experience in teaching and making lessons relevant and engaging for students.
  • Knowledge of and direct practice in teaching and modeling Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing.
  • Effective student group management skills that incorporate growth mindset and positive behavioral interactions with students (PBIS).
  • Ability to support students and families in a respectful, inclusive, and engaging way.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and a highly developed understanding of youth development skills.
  • Adaptable and able to manage multiple objectives at one time. The High School Academy setting is constantly changing and the ability to be nimble, supportive, and proactive is key for team members.
  • Collaborative classroom practices are imperative to the success of Peninsula Bridge as we often incorporate outside visitors, volunteers, and other Peninsula Bridge stakeholders.
  • Effective organization skills, attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate and teach Google Suite Apps for access to curriculum, student reports, collaborative work with students and team members.

Salary: This is a position based on hourly pay. Compensation is:

  • $75/hr. for Direct Teaching Hours
  • $35/hr. for Administrative Tasks
