Penguin Random House
York, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 4/20/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/20/2026
The Product Manager — UK & Commonwealth leads the commercial management of U.S. titles across these territories. Sitting at the intersection of rights, sales, marketing, and production, this role drives day-to-day coordination and strategic planning to grow sales and margins. The Product Manager collaborates closely with U.S. publishing teams (rights, editorial, contracts, production), UK and Commonwealth sales and distribution partners, and internal marketing and finance teams to ensure accurate forecasting, timely publication, and effective commercial programs.

Manage the full commercial lifecycle for core and client titles in the UK & Commonwealth — from rights evaluation through forecasting, marketing coordination, and production — to maximize sales, margin, and long-term growth.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Rights and Sales Facilitation:
  • Lead subsidiary rights exchanges and clearances for UK & Commonwealth territories in coordination with divisional Subsidiary Rights teams.
  • Track and manage rights; proactively identify new sales opportunities.
  • Oversee titles where agents hold UK & Commonwealth rights but no local publisher sale exists.
  • Maintain a standardized rights tracking system with all sales and publication milestones.
  • Commercial Planning and Launch Preparation:
  • Attend all divisional and client launch meetings, representing UK & Commonwealth commercial priorities.
  • Understand frontlist and backlist titles, formats, and rights limitations; provide initial commercial analysis and communicate key priorities to UK sales teams.
  • Sales Forecasting and P&L Alignment
  • Produce and maintain accurate sales forecasts and inventory plans for assigned lists.
  • Align forecasts with P&L and rights clearances in collaboration with finance.
  • Identify and communicate commercial risks (e.g., rights, production, marketing gaps) that impact editorial, production, or marketing decisions.
  • Marketing and Sales Coordination
  • Coordinate with UK & Commonwealth marketing and publicity teams to align activation timelines with publication and sales plans.
  • Production and Schedule Management
  • Manage production schedules and delivery timelines for cleared titles.
  • Partner with Production, Inventory, Logistics, and sister companies to ensure on-time printing and shipping.
  • Process and Systems Improvement
  • Streamline workflows to reduce manual tracking and enhance proactive selling.
  • Support implementation of improved tools and systems for rights, forecasting, and reporting

Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:

  • 5 years of publishing experience (sales, product management, rights, or production preferred).
  • Experience negotiating subsidiary rights and working with contracts and production teams.
  • Strong commercial, analytical, and project management skills, including forecasting and P&L analysis.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; strong stakeholder management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and sales/reporting systems.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with rights management and contracts workflows.
  • Experience coordinating across editorial, production, and sales to deliver commercial outcomes.
  • Ability to simplify complex rights or production constraints into clear commercial actions.
  • Strong commercial instincts and negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional organization and attention to detail.
  • Collaborative mindset with ability to build consensus across remote and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to prioritize and escalate issues affecting sales or margins.
