Associate Manager, Subsidiary Rights (Open to Remote)

Seeking a publishing professional with solid negotiating and problem-solving skills to represent Penguin Young Reader’s domestic subsidiary rights, reporting directly to the Director of Subsidiary Rights. The candidate will be responsible for handling the submission of books and the negotiation and selling of rights to core customers, for a high volume of titles spanning all ages and genres.

The candidate will be a team player, possess strong interpersonal skills, will be highly organized and deadline-drive and have an ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and passionate Rights or Sales professional to work within one of the world’s largest children’s book publishing companies.

Specific responsibilities include:  

  • Pitch, negotiate, and manage licensing deals with domestic customers
  • Coordinate with customers to share and develop opportunities to increase sales
  • Provide price quotes and manage custom printings for school book fairs and school and library book clubs
  • Work with the Director on the creation of at least two seasonal sales presentations for key customers
  • Attend virtual and/or in-person sales meetings to present the publishing list to customers
  • Assisting with any other departmental projects when needed


Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:  

  • 2-3 years of experience in a Subsidiary Rights or Sales capacity
  • Knowledge and appreciation of children’s books
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external colleagues across all levels of an organization and build relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time and meet firm deadlines
  • Ability to read and understand publishing contracts
  • Collaborative work ethic as well as ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook, along with a willingness to learn new systems and tools


The Penguin Random House national headquarters is located in New York City. The position is open to remote candidates based in the United States who can operate on East Coast business hours.

The salary for this position is $66,500. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
