This is a position for a Physician Extender II to provide preventive and acute care for patients in all health department programs as described in program policies and procedures.

- Provides healthcare services in the clinic within the limits of the training or the license to newborns through older adults, with the exception of prenatal care.
- Diagnoses, treats and manages acute and chronic illness.
- Performs complete physical exams, subsequent exams ,and diagnostic exams for patients as indicated.
- Obtains and/or reviews medical histories.
- Provides education and counseling to patients via telephone and in the clinic based on the patients' needs.
- Consults with medical director and/or refers patients to a physician for more complicated conditions/illnesses.
- Assesses immunization needs and refers patients for immunizations when needed.
- Encourages health promotion/risk prevention with patients as appropriate.
- Initiates appropriate patient health education, interagency referrals, and referrals to other medical and community resources.
- Participates in the review and revision of policies and procedures and standing orders for clinic programs.
- Documents care provided and health care needs in the patient's electronic medical record according to agency protocol.
- Interviews and counsels patients and/or caregivers regarding birth control methods, STD prevention, preventive health practices, medication compliance, prescribed treatment, pathophysiology, and other health conditions and concerns.
- Serves as clinical advisor for public health RNs enrolled in the Adult Health Physical Assessment course and the Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinician course.
- Provides consultation on nurses performing clinical assessments.
- Serves as a preceptor for students enrolled in nurse practitioner and/or physician assistant programs in accordance with agency agreements.
- Acts as a resource person to all staff.
- Provides healthcare for patients via tele health as needed.
- Completes continuing education courses mandated by licensure boards
- Completes required CPR classes
- Completes yearly OSHA and annual training classes
- Attends meetings and workshops/conferences as recommended by supervising physician and supervisor
- Maintains active participation in professional organizations, serving in leadership roles as requested and desired.
Licensed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board and one year of experience as a Physician Extender; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
This position is a safety sensitive position and subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with the Pender County Personnel Policy and Risk Policy.
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work frequently sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).Salary : $106,416 - $126,685
