Performs intermediate semi skilled work spraying areas to eradicate mosquitoes and other insects, maintaining equipment, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Mosquito Control and Maintenance Supervisor. Assist with other duties as needed or assigned.

- Tracks mosquito populations; counts mosquitoes at various locations.
- Identifies mosquitoes; sets mosquito traps.
- Checks standing water areas for mosquito larvae.
- Operates fogging equipment on designated routes.
- Mixes and stores chemicals according to specifications.
- Performs maintenance on equipment; ensures proper calibration of equipment.
- Keeps records of activities.
General knowledge of the safe methods to chemically eradicate insects; general knowledge of the use of chemical pesticides; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to operate vehicles safety in residential neighborhoods; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in pest control, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession of or ability to obtain pesticide applicator's license within one year of employment.
Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
This position is a safety sensitive position and subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with the Pender County Personnel Policy and Risk Policy.
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, lifting and repetitive motions, frequently requires reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling and occasionally requires sitting and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and exposure to the risk of electrical shock; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
