POSITION DETAILS
Position Title: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Recruit
Classification: Full-Time
Academy Start Date: September 14, 2026
Academy Duration: Approximately 7 Weeks (Attendance is MANDATORY)
Academy Location: Pender County Emergency Services – Station 7 14388 NC Hwy 210 Rocky Point NC 28457
Academy Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Pay During Academy: $17.00/hour
Post-Academy Starting Salary: $47,716.92 annually $22.95 per hour
Post-Academy Schedule: 24/72 rotating shift schedule (24 hours on duty, 72 hours off)

No prior EMS experience is required.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
Applicants must submit ONE of the following with their application:
• A passing CASAS test score OR
• A college transcript showing successful completion of an English course within the last five (5) years
Applications submitted without the required documentation will not be considered.
Candidates who do not currently possess either document must complete and pass the CASAS test prior to applying.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in an in-person physical agility assessment on:
• Monday July 20, 2026 9am & 1pm
• Tuesday July 21, 2026 9am & 1pm
Candidates who successfully complete the agility assessment will be invited to an in-person panel interview on:
• Tuesday July 28, 2026
• Wednesday July 29, 2026
• Thursday July 30, 2026

POSITION SUMMARY
The EMT Recruit position is designed for individuals seeking the opportunity to become certified Emergen-cy Medical Technicians and begin a full-time career with Pender County Emergency Services.
Under close supervision and in a structured training environment, recruits will learn and demonstrate the essential skills and procedures required to provide emergency medical care in the field.
Upon successful completion of the academy, recruits will:
• Obtain the certifications required by the State of North Carolina
• Earn North Carolina EMT certification
• Transition into a full-time EMT position with Pender County Emergency Services
• Receive the full EMT starting salary listed above
Although the academy is provided at no cost to participants, recruits are required to commit to a two-year employment agreement upon successful completion of the program.
ABOUT THE ACADEMY
The primary goal of the Earn While You Learn Academy is to prepare recruits to safely and effectively per-form the duties of an EMT assigned to an emergency response crew.
The academy includes:
• Comprehensive classroom instruction
• Hands-on practical skills training
• Emergency Department clinical experience
• Ambulance ride-along clinicals
• State-required EMT preparation and testing
Following classroom instruction, recruits will complete:
• One (1) Emergency Department clinical rotation
• Three (3) ambulance clinical rotations
Instruction is conducted Monday through Friday during daytime business hours.
Our training program focuses on professionalism, patient care, teamwork, and operational excel-lence to ensure recruits are fully prepared for a successful EMS career.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must:
• Be at least 18 years old
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Be eligible for employment in the United States
• Possess a valid Class C (or higher) driver’s license
• Successfully complete:
• Background investigation
• Driving record check
• Urine drug screening
• Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
• Panel interview
• Obtain a CASAS reading placement test score of 249 or higher within one (1) year of the academy start date
• Provide proof of required immunizations
No prior EMS experience is required.REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

This position requires the ability to:
• Lift and move more than 100 pounds occasionally, with or without assistance
• Perform physically demanding activities including:

• Walking
• Pushing/pulling
• Repetitive movement
• Operate emergency vehicles and equipment safely
• Work in hazardous environments, including potential exposure to infectious diseases
• Annual successful completion of the Job Performance Agility Test (JPAT) is required.
IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must provide documentation for the following:
• Current influenza vaccine (Required for hospital clinicals conducted between October–March)
• Two (2) MMR vaccinations or positive antibody titer
• Documentation of Chicken Pox history or two (2) Varicella vaccinations
• TB skin test (within the past year) or chest x-ray
• Tetanus vaccination within the last 10 years
• Three (3) Hepatitis B vaccinations or signed declination statement
