What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bodyworker for Stroke Patients position at Pen Drop?
Bodyworker (and/or Massage Therapist) Sought with Specialty in Stroke Patients
Background:
My husband is a 54 year old man who suffered a stroke almost a month ago, and he is undergoing physical and occupational therapy at home. He is in a tremendous amount of (what we believe to be) neuromuscular discomfort, particularly in his hips, glutes, back, neck, and shoulders. These discomforts are a combination of being out of alignment as one (stronger) side compensates for the other, weakened side (although he is avoiding chiropractic adjustments during this period) and being in a bed and chair most of the time (he was very mobile and active pre-stroke).
The pains and discomforts become most debilitating during the night when he cannot sleep. Finding a comfortable position and being repeatedly awakened from the pains he’s experiencing are creating a roadblock to his recovery.
Intention:
We are interested in finding a bodyworker with knowledge and experience working with stroke patients. We are interested in finding a bodyworker who can come to our home to provide him with a session before bedtime to optimize his ability to sleep comfortably. While we would like to try it once to make sure we’re a good fit, we are interested in establishing a regular practice with the right bodyworker for these evening appointments.
Some practices we’ve learned may be suitable are myofascial release, neuromuscular work, or other soft tissue work appropriate for releasing tightness and reestablishing alignment. We are open to the type of practice, providing it’s safe and appropriate for stroke patients.
Please contact me, Chelsea, his wife, to apply. Thank you very much.
