The Pen Argyl Area School District is looking for a Secondary Director of Curriculum and Instruction who holds a Principal Certificate or a Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction Certificate.  Preference will be given to candidates with a strong Math background, experience with data analysis, and prior administrative experience.

  • Pennsylvania Principal’s Certificate or Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction Certificate  
  • 5 years of successful teaching experience
  • Completed entry plan encompassing the candidate’s first year in the position
  • Three (3) letters of reference

QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES OF THE 

SECONDARY DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION 


QUALIFICATIONS:  The Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction shall hold a Principal Certificate or a Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction Certificate.  Preference will be given to candidates with a strong Math background, experience with data analysis related to instructional planning, and prior administrative experience. 


TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month contract


REPORTS TO: Superintendent


SUPERVISES: In conjunction with the principals, supervise all 7-12 Professional Staff 


GENERAL FUNCTIONS: The Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction assists the administrators in the general administration of the District and is directly responsible for curriculum, instruction, and staff development.


ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Attend all School Board meetings, Administrative Council meetings, and any other committee meetings deemed necessary by the Superintendent.
  • Represent the District at area meetings relative to curriculum, instruction, and technology.
  • Coordinate the preparation, filing, and maintenance of State grants, including the Accountability Block Grant (ABG).  
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the District Comprehensive Plan.
  • In conjunction with the District Administration, supervise the District PIMS Coordinator.
  • Supervise the principals’ completion of the PVAAS Roster Verification process and submit District information to PDE.
  • Organize, coordinate, and supervise standardized testing programs, including Keystone Exams grades 8-12, PSSAs grades 3-8, and benchmarking and progress monitoring for grades 7–12.
  • Prepare the budget and requisition materials for instructional technology, academic departments, grades 7-12, and all testing, testing supplies, scoring services, data processing, etc., grades K–12.
  • Oversee the Pen Argyl Virtual Academy, including supervision of the Coordinator for the Pen Argyl Virtual Academy.
  • Serves as the District’s coordinator of Student Assistance Programs.
  • Assume any other duties assigned by the Superintendent.


PERSONNEL:

  • Serve as District Title IX Coordinator
  • With the principals, interview all potential teacher candidates 7–12.
  • With the principals, formally and informally observe and evaluate all new instructional staff in grades 7-12 using the District Differentiated Supervision Plan. 
  • With the principals, observe, evaluate, and direct the activities of all teachers in grades 7-12.



CURRICULUM:

  • Develop, maintain, and interpret an articulated 7-12 curriculum that meets state requirements and reflects the instructional goals of the District.
  • Read, review, and provide input for all curricula (7-12) developed by staff prior to its presentation to the Curriculum Committee.
  • Provide leadership to the Curriculum Committee and Department/Grade level Coordinators, grades 7 – 12, in the development and implementation of the written curriculum and textbook selection and purchase.
  • Co-facilitate District Curriculum Committee meetings.
  • Work with District guidance counselors to implement and coordinate the Chapter 339 Plan curriculum and Business Advisory Council.  
  • Supervise the preparation and submission of the Chapter 339 Plan to PDE at the appropriate time intervals.
  • Coordinate the implementation of Act 35, Assessment of Civics Knowledge, and submit information to PDE per PDE requirements.
  • With the High School Principal, develop and coordinate all of the requirements for graduation.
  • Supervise and work with the High School Principal to adhere to the Act 158 Graduation Pathways legislation requirements and submit the requested information to PDE.
  • Attend monthly IU Curriculum Advisory Council meetings.
  • Represent the District at the Northampton Community College (NCC) Advisory Council.
  • With the High School Principal, coordinate planning and programs for high school students at the Career Institute of Technology (CIT).
  • Supervise the Homebound Instruction Program.
  • Attend workshops and conferences appropriate to the position.
  • With the Superintendent and principals, review assessment data, set goals, identify areas of strength and areas in need of improvement, and develop school improvement initiatives for grades 7–12.
  • Conduct data analysis meetings to assist staff in analyzing data, to develop staff proficiency in making instructional decisions for all students related to best research-based instructional practices, grades 7–12.
  • Assist the reading and math specialists in making student placement decisions, entrance and exit criteria for remediation programs, and monitoring student progress for grades 7–12.
  • Assume responsibility for personal and professional growth by keeping current with regard to requirements, laws, regulations, and policies; reviewing current literature and research; maintaining knowledge of research-based instructional techniques; and attending applicable professional meetings, webinars, trainings, and conferences.


STAFF DEVELOPMENT:

  • With the Elementary Director of Curriculum and Instruction, plan, supervise, coordinate, and implement the District in-service program. 
  • Plan and implement the Teacher Induction Program; maintain and annually update the Online Modules of the Induction program. 
  • Provide staff training in Math, Science, and Social Studies, K-12, and consult with the Elementary Director of Curriculum and Instruction related to staff training in Reading/Language Arts 7–12.
  • Assist with planning and conducting the Summer Administrative Retreat.


COMMUNITY:

  • Represent the District at public functions to promote the District and school programs.
  • With the approval of the Superintendent, provide information to the news media related to curriculum and instruction.
  • Assist the District staff in communicating with the parents and the community.
  • Prepare and present information concerning academic progress as necessary.
