What are the responsibilities and job description for the LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE: CUSTODIAN position at Pembroke Public Schools?
TEMPORARY POSITION: APRIL - JUNE 2026. SHIFT IS 6:00am-2:00pm, Monday-FridayQUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma. Knowledge of Equipment and Operation. Must be able to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions as appropriate to custodial activities.
Relevant experience as a school custodian, or the equivalent in custodial service in other institutions. Possession of a valid Massachusetts Drivers License. Demonstrated knowledge of basic techniques of electrical repairs and maintenance, plumbing and carpentry.REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Manager of Buildings and Grounds.JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable and clean place in which to learn, play and develop.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions or duties listed below are illustrations of the type of work that is performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position of the work if similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.Performs general cleaning and maintenance of the school building and grounds to include but not be limited to cutting of grass.
Performs necessary painting and general repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry and general mechanical areas. Replaces broken windows. Shovels and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriate. Responsible for notifying Manager of Buildings and Grounds or designee of any and all alarm calls.
Ensures that the United States Flag is raised and lowered at appropriate times. Maintains proper heating and A/C settings in the building as directed by Principal. Prepares the school buildings and grounds for all activities and events as directed. Cleans and maintains all boilers and other major equipment.
Orders and receives supplies and equipment and maintains all necessary inventories. Responsible for the general security of the building to include opening and closing of building. Reports major repairs needed promptly to Building Principal. Reports any damage to school property promptly to Building Principal.
Moves furniture or equipment within building as required for various activities and as directed. Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste. Substitutes or assists in other buildings as directed by the Manager of Buildings and Grounds. Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
Performs any other functions as assigned by supervisor and/or designee.
