Position Summary:The Special Education Resource Specialist/Instructional Coach provides both direct instructional support to students with disabilities and professional coaching to staff to enhance the effectiveness of special education services. This role blends teaching, case management, and instructional leadership to ensure that students
with disabilities have equitable access to the general education curriculum, make meaningful progress toward IEP goals, and benefit from high-quality, evidence-based instruction across all settings.
Qualifications- Valid Special Education certification/licensure (as required by state).
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years of successful experience as a special education teacher.
- Strong knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, MTSS, and inclusive instructional practices.
- Demonstrated expertise in instructional design, data analysis, and behavior support strategies.
- Provide job-embedded coaching, modeling, and feedback to special education and general education teachers on effective instructional practices.
- Support teachers in using data to plan, implement, and adjust instruction and interventions.
- Facilitate professional learning opportunities, PLCs, and workshops on topics such as differentiated instruction, behavior supports, and inclusive practices.
- Mentor and support new special education staff in program compliance, instructional planning, and IEP implementation.
- Collaborate with administrators and teams to strengthen school-wide systems for MTSS, inclusion, and equitable access for all learners.
- Act as a liaison between the special education department, school administration, and teaching staff to ensure alignment and communication.
- Promote a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement grounded in student-centered, data-driven decision making.
- Stay current on research-based practices, legal requirements, and instructional innovations in special education.
- Manages the status of the Special Education Database (Special Programs), including adding students that are being referred for special education, running reports, auditing all indicators, and assigning case managers.
- Maintains and complete reports requested by the District Department of Special Education.
- Sends Compliance Updates to special education teachers and administrators to flag compliance host spots (i.e. upcoming timeline due date)
- Collaborates with the Special Education Coordinator to see what compliance related professional development and training needs.
- Develops and conducts in service workshops for teacher and parents.
- Assist new teachers on policy and procedure.
- Assist Director in assessing instructional needs of students with disabilities.
- Works with special education teachers with instruction, and writing individual education programs.
- Adheres to federal, state, local and board rules and regulations.
- Assumes other reasonable and equitable job related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
