Anticipated Early Child Liaison/ Childcare Center Director

The Pekin Community School District is seeking an Early Child Liaison/Childcare Center Director to start October 1, 2026. This position is full time, wages are based on experience and education. The facility is licensed through the Iowa Department of Human Services. The center is licensed with a maximum number of 136 children at one time in the premises from ages infant through school age.  

This center director is responsible for the overall functions of the center, including supervising staff, designing curriculum and administering programs. The director shall ensure services are provided for the children within the framework of the licensing requirements and the center’s statement of purpose and objectives. The center director shall have overall responsibility for carrying out the program and ensuring the safety and protection of the children.

Basic Responsibilities:

• To plan and execute the program and curriculum for the full-day Child Care Center and assure that the program provided meets the highest quality standards.
• To maintain a strong staff by recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and appraising the work of the day care personnel.
• To give personal attention and supervision to every aspect of the Day Care operation.
• Interview and provide tours to prospective families.
• Establish goals and objectives for the day care program that are consistent with those of the Pekin Community School District and what is developmentally appropriate for the children in care.
• Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing with parents on an ongoing basis.
• Implement staff meetings at a time which all staff can attend.
• Always maintain responsibility for the safety and supervision of the children.
• Responsible for maintaining a staff schedule to ensure that all ratios remain in compliance with regulations. This may include acting as a classroom teacher or opening/closing the center on short notice.
• Document attendance, absenteeism, and incidents for each child enrolled and all staff employed by the Child Care Site.
• Responsible for the appearance of the classrooms and maintaining the quality of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classrooms.
• Supervise the maintenance of equipment and supplies within the financial boundaries.
• Maintain an organized, first-come, first-served waiting list for families interested in the child care program.
• Assist in any other areas as assigned by the Elementary Principal.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age 
• Has obtained a high school diploma or GED
• Has completed at least one course in business administration or 12 contact hours in administrative-related training related to personnel, supervision, record keeping, or budgeting or has one year of administrative-related experience or ability to complete within 1 year.
• Has certification in infant, child, and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and Iowa’s training for mandatory reporting of child abuse.
• Requirements for combination of education, experience, and child development-related training:
• Associate’s degree in a non-child-related field or completion of at least two years of a four-year degree
• Bachelor’s degree in a non-child-related field
• Child development associate (CDA) or one-year diploma in child development from a community college or technical school
• Associate’s degree in child development or bachelor’s degree in a child-related field.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood, child development, or elementary education.
