The Role
As a Product Design Engineer you will be responsible for leading the design, testing, and scale-up of existing and next-gen products. You’ll work directly with customers on rooftops and with our Applications Team to understand functionality requirements in order to develop new products and refine existing designs. You’ll work with our Supply Chain team and directly with our suppliers globally to design for manufacturability followed by scaling up mass production. With strong leadership skills, technical acumen, and attention to detail you can help us improve the solar installation process and accelerate the adoption of solar. Each product you design will likely be manufactured in the millions of units.
The position is based at our headquarters in Richmond, CA, with flexibility to work up to 50% remotely.

What You’ll Do
● Develop products for the solar market by defining requirements, generating concepts, determining evaluation metrics, building concept prototypes, evaluating concept functionality and iterating.
● Leverage modeling data (FEA, tolerance analysis, DFX, etc.) and collaborate closely with our test engineering team to validate and optimize designs.
● Track and demonstrate that your designs meet the product requirements that you help define.
● Provide technical feedback to other design engineers.
● Implement continuous improvements and best practices with the team.
What You’ll Bring
● Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
● 5 years in a mechanical engineering and product design role
● Must have experience designing products for high-volume production (roll forming, sheet metal stamping, extrusions, die-castings, injection molding, etc.)
● Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
● Expert in SolidWorks
● Creative capacity for developing new ways to do things better, cheaper, faster
● Proficiency in Arena is a plus
● Mandarin or Spanish speaking is a plus
