I’m partnering with a manufacturing client in the Greater St. Charles area that is adding a Strategic Planning Manager to their team due to an upcoming transition within leadership.
This is a highly visible role supporting executive leadership on strategic planning, operational analysis, forecasting, margin improvement initiatives, and special projects that directly impact the business.
This is NOT just a “sales planning” role. They need someone who can take complex business and operational data and turn it into:
👉 “Here’s what the data is telling us”
👉 “Here’s the risk/opportunity”
👉 “Here’s what we should do next”
The role reports into a senior leader who is heavily involved across the business, so they need someone who can:
âś” Work independently
âś” Ask smart questions
âś” Take direction well
âś” Handle both strategic thinking AND tactical execution
âś” Jump into special projects when needed
Examples of the type of work:
• Forecasting & business planning
• KPI development & operational metrics
• Margin and profitability analysis
• Cross-functional business reviews
• Supply chain and sourcing analysis
• Executive-level presentations
• Scenario modeling & business cases
• Special projects that can range from operational planning to supply chain investigations
One recent project involved tracing raw material sourcing across manufacturers to validate compliance requirements internationally. So yes… definitely a role for someone who likes solving problems and digging into details. 🔎
What they’re looking for:
• MBA strongly preferred
• Experience in manufacturing, materials, chemicals, supply chain, strategy, finance, or operations analytics
• Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, macros, modeling)
• Someone comfortable in a lean, fast-moving environment
• Able to balance tactical execution with big-picture thinking
