The Opportunity

PEG Staffing & Recruiting has been engaged to conduct a confidential search for an accomplished General Counsel & Enterprise Compliance Lead on behalf of an established, mission-driven organization operating across the Midwest.

This executive leadership position offers an opportunity to serve as the organization's chief legal officer and trusted strategic advisor to senior leadership. The successful candidate will provide sophisticated legal counsel while advancing enterprise-wide compliance, corporate governance, and risk management initiatives.

Reporting directly to the President and Chief Operating Officer, this individual will play an integral role in shaping organizational strategy, strengthening governance practices, and ensuring legal and regulatory considerations are thoughtfully integrated into business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as principal legal advisor to executive leadership on corporate, regulatory, governance, compliance, and strategic matters.
• Develop and execute an enterprise-wide legal, governance, and compliance strategy aligned with organizational priorities.
• Provide proactive guidance on complex legal matters, regulatory obligations, contractual relationships, and organizational risk.
• Strengthen corporate governance frameworks, internal policies, and enterprise compliance practices.
• Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning, major organizational initiatives, and risk-informed decision-making.
• Identify and evaluate emerging legal, regulatory, and reputational risks, recommending practical and commercially sound solutions.
• Promote a culture of accountability, ethical decision-making, and organizational integrity.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking a seasoned legal executive who combines exceptional legal judgment with strategic business acumen, executive presence, and a collaborative leadership approach.

The ideal candidate will bring:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active admission to practice law.
• Approximately 15 years of progressive legal experience, including significant responsibility advising executive leadership.
• Demonstrated expertise in corporate governance, enterprise compliance, regulatory matters, and risk management.
• Experience navigating complex organizational structures and providing strategic counsel on high-impact business decisions.
• Strong executive communication skills and the ability to translate sophisticated legal considerations into actionable business guidance.
• A pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach balanced with sound judgment and professional integrity.
• Experience in commercial real estate finance, community development finance, lending, or related regulated financial environments is highly desirable.
