What are the responsibilities and job description for the APG Sales Engineer position at PEG Staffing & Recruiting?
We are seeking an experienced Engineered HVAC Sales professional to develop and grow an Applied Products Group territory throughout Missouri, Kansas, and Southern Illinois.
This is a highly technical, relationship-driven role focused on the commercial HVAC engineering and contractor community. This is not residential HVAC or general territory sales. The ideal candidate understands engineered HVAC systems and can work with projects from design and specification through bid, sale, installation, start-up, and troubleshooting.
Experience with VRF/VRV, dedicated outside air systems (DOAS), HVAC controls, applied commercial equipment, and specification-driven sales is highly valued.
What You'll Do
- Build relationships with mechanical engineering consulting firms, MEP firms, design/build mechanical contractors, commercial plan-and-spec contractors, and owner-level HVAC decision makers.
- Promote, specify, bid, and sell commercial HVAC/APG equipment, including VRF, outside air, controls, and related engineered products.
- Work with consulting engineers on equipment design, application, selection, and specification.
- Pursue Basis of Design (BOD) opportunities and position represented products early in the project lifecycle.
- Read and interpret mechanical plans, engineering drawings, architectural documents, schedules, and specifications.
- Develop technical documentation to support project approval, specification, and bidding.
- Track projects through design ? specification ? bid ? sale ? installation/start-up.
- Maintain knowledge of competitor equipment, HVAC codes, industry standards, applications, and market trends.
- Coordinate presentations, certifications, bidding, closing, installation support, start-up, and troubleshooting.
- Network throughout the engineering and mechanical contractor community to identify current and upcoming projects.
- Build strong relationships with manufacturers/vendor representatives and participate in trade and industry events.

What We're Looking For
- Engineering degree or equivalent field-based technical HVAC experience
- Ideally 3 years selling within the engineering community and recommending equipment for project specifications
- Commercial HVAC, Applied Products Group/APG, or engineered equipment sales experience strongly preferred
- Experience working with consulting engineers and mechanical contractors
- Knowledge of VRF/VRV, DOAS/outside air, HVAC controls, and applied commercial equipment
- Understanding of Basis of Design and specification-driven sales
- Ability to read mechanical/architectural drawings and engineering specifications
- Strong understanding of the commercial HVAC project lifecycle
- Ability to communicate complex mechanical and electrical concepts with engineers and contractors
- Strong technical writing, presentation, relationship-building, and territory-management skills
- CAD experience is a plus
- Active involvement with ASHRAE, MCA, ACCA, or similar industry organizations is highly valued
Technical & Technology Skills
Candidates should be comfortable with technical calculations involving airflow, static pressure, electrical requirements, thermodynamics, area/volume, percentages, and equipment selection/application.
Experience with Microsoft Office, CRM/sales tracking tools, inventory/order-processing systems, and technical product research is preferred.
Territory & Travel
This position supports customers and projects throughout Missouri, Kansas, and Southern Illinois and requires regular interaction with engineers, contractors, owners, manufacturers, and project stakeholders.
A valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle are required.
Salary : $80,000 - $82,000
