Position Summary:
PEER Consultants is seeking a Field Technician to join our team in a fast paced, dynamic Civil/Environmental Engineering environment. This position is assigned to field services, engineering and construction management projects across all PEER disciplines, providing field engineering and technician services, primarily with water/wastewater and transportation clients throughout the Washington, DC region.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance to engineers with:
o Water/Wastewater field investigations including stormwater quality monitoring, IDDE investigations, and existing conditions assessments of MH and pipe systems.
o Geotechnical Investigations including field tasks such as soil borings, monitoring well installation, and soil/groundwater sampling.
o Preparation of record drawings
o Potable Water sampling
- Work as part of a team of engineers, field technicians, and/or resident inspectors.
- Receives moderate to close supervision depending on the complexity of assignments.
- Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations.
- Assumes other related responsibilities from time to time, as required.
Knowledge, Education & Experience: (Minimum education, experience, technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position)
- High School Diploma plus 1-year relevant experience or college course work in related discipline, or an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- CAD training, certification and/or experience is a plus.
- Up-to-date knowledge of computers and tablets
Job Description
- Valid driver’s license and personal smart phone are required.
- Good oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to walk job sites, sometimes on uneven terrain, and stand for long periods. Ability to wear safety equipment and to carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds as needed.
- Bilingual is a plus.
Working Conditions: (Typical working conditions associated with this type of work and environmental hazards, if any, that may be encountered in performing the duties of this position.)
External: Work may be performed on a construction site with exposure to construction noise and various weather conditions. Travel will be required. Travel typically consists of travel to project site and client offices in Massachusetts. Position requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). The job will require interaction with the public.
Internal: Work is normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment. No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of internal job duties.
Physical Demands: (The physical effort generally associated with this position.)
Work may involve lifting and carrying, over short distances, packages, documents, laptop computers, and other equipment weighing less than 50 pounds. Visits to project sites involve standing for long periods of time and walking on uneven terrain up to several miles per day. Most office duties may be performed from a seated position.
