The Peel Compton Foundation is looking for a Museum Tour Guide (Part-Time) to join our team at The Peel Museum and Botanical Garden. This is a great opportunity to work for an amazing organization with a meaningful mission.

The Peel Compton Foundation is a premiere and growing nonprofit organization, located in Bentonville, AR seeking a highly motivated and entrepreneurial individual to join the team. The Peel Compton Foundation owns and operates the Peel Museum & Botanical Garden, Compton Gardens & Arboretum, Coler Mountain Bike Preserve, and Osage Park. The uniting mission for these diverse properties is to connect the community through nature, education, recreation, and preservation. The Natural Resources Technicians are responsible for keeping the properties ready for all the visitors.

About the Position:

The Museum Tour Guide provides support to the Museum Manager and Museum Coordinator by offering tours for the museum and assisting on a variety of museum projects involving the museum collections, educational programing, and docent program. The Part-time Museum Tour Guide will also be asked to fill-in as cashier and/or assist in the museum store as needed. This role is a part-time, paid position.

General

  • Lead a docent shift (5½ hour shift) 3 times per week and offer experiences and/or tours of the house for visiting guests
  • Work as cashier in the museum store and/or assist with museum store projects as needed
  • Provide excellent customer service to museum visitors and store customers
  • Perform open and closing duties for the store
  • Run the register using VEND retail software
  • Capture attendance and other statistics
  • Assist the Museum Coordinator and Museum Manager with the annual inventory (checking in objects and updating object files)
  • Assist Museum Manager with display of collection and rotation of objects as needed
  • Assist with collection cleaning as needed
  • Assist with research/writing projects for collection documentation as well as educational and promotional (social media) needs
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Excellent listening and questioning skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer and email competency
  • Flexibility to adjust with the needs of the museum
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs (on and off for several hours at a time)
  • Commitment to furthering the foundation and museum’s mission and goals

Additional Helpful Experience Includes:

  • Experience offering tours and/or working in a museum setting
  • Knowledge of American / Arkansas History
