Position Summary

The Vice President of Finance and Administration directs, organizes and plans the functions of budgeting, cash management, purchasing and maintenance of complete records of all financial activities in accordance with established Board policies and accepted accounting principles. The Vice President of Finance and Administration also directs, organizes, and plans the Human Resource functions of the cooperative.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains procedures to provide a realistic representation of the Cooperative's financial position and outlook for the future in order to aid the decision-making process and produce a cash flow plan which will assure the necessary funds to meet financial obligations.
  • Prepares the annual capital and operating budget for all Cooperative operations, including projections of revenue and expenses for the upcoming fiscal year, which will meet the financial obligations of the Cooperative.
  • Manages the use and investment of surplus funds in sound and safe investment instruments, which will result in an adequate rate of return from the investments.
  • Directs the activities of all accounting personnel in maintaining general accounting documentation, plant accounting records, journal entries, and other financial information.
  • Controls the issuance of payments for expenses. Coordinates the acquisition of funds from loans and other sources in order to have capital available for projects and operating expenses.
  • Monitors risk and provides insurance coverage to protect the Cooperative from liability claims, losses from fire and other perils, and liabilities.
  • Directs the preparation and submittal of tax and other regulatory reports, and performs related activities necessary for overall accounting functions.
  • To develop standards and procedures for purchasing, issuance of purchase orders, receipt and warehousing, contract administration, audits of purchasing, and related procedures.
  • Provide organizational and human resource leadership and direction to cooperative staff that establishes and maintains a compensation plan that is competitive and fair.
  • Coordinates with the Senior Human Resources Specialist to effectively administer the Human Resource functions of the cooperative.
  • Collaborate with other Executive Staff members to reinforce and implement the company culture, strategic plan, and vision.
  • Displays a participative style by encouraging constructive handling of conflict, providing and accepting feedback.
  • Takes a genuine interest in the development of employees throughout the organization.
  • Conveys feelings of respect for all employees and encourages the same in others.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or closely related curriculum required. Master's Degree in a related curriculum preferred. Will consider related work experience in lieu of educational requirements if there is a demonstrated ability to carry out the position responsibilities, based on a substitution of two years of experience for each year of academic training. Certified Public Accountant certification preferred.
  • Completion of the RUS borrower accounting course is also helpful.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in Cooperative management, associated-industry management, or Cooperative regulatory administration, with emphasis in finance, accounting, or similar experience.
  • Must be able to organize, plan, direct, and motivate assigned personnel.
  • Must be able to develop plans, programs, budgets, procedures, and reports in assigned areas of responsibility and identify and achieve measurable performance criteria.
  • Must be able to complete all assignments with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information at all times. Must be able to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Must be able to motivate employees in the ideals and objectives of the Cooperative.
  • Must be able to interact well with internal and external individuals while handling inquiries and/or composing correspondence.
  • Must convey professional interaction at all times, thereby maintaining positive relations. Displays and encourages team effort for maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Must be able to operate standard company technology/equipment, including a working knowledge of Microsoft programs and other software applications pertinent to the Cooperative’s system (ex. Excel, Word, and Windows operating system).
  • Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license at the level necessary to operate vehicles in the performance of position responsibilities.
  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of Cooperative Bylaws, policies, and procedures.
  • Must be able to attend periodic seminars, training programs, conferences, civic and professional events.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $63.44 - $80.17 per hour
