REGISTERED NURSE, MANAGER - PEDIATRICS, PICU, PEDS AMBULATORY SURGERY

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Schedule: FT, Days

The Nursing Manager is a Registered Nurse who is accountable for leading, managing, developing, supervising, and evaluating all aspects of patient care. Manages and collaborates relationships with leadership members, physicians, for the care of responsible patient populations. Assures professional, clinical, and educational excellence in the provision of quality care to patients. Facilitates empowerment of staff in the implementation of creative and innovative patient care delivery models and stimulates a collaborative multidisciplinary team approach in the continuous improvement of patient care services. Assumes responsibility for fiscal management of the unit. 

Henry Ford St. John Hospital is a full-service hospital with 24/7 emergency care and a Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center. Henry Ford St. John Hospital is a destination for specialty care including heart, cancer, stroke care, and orthopedics. Our OB-GYN maternity care teams deliver a personalized birthing experience and advanced neonatal care for sick babies. Henry Ford St. John Children's Hospital provides comprehensive pediatric emergency, inpatient, intensive care, surgical, neonatal and several specialty care for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. We offer a range of procedures using robotic-assisted technology, imaging and lab tests, a dedicated inpatient rehabilitation center, all on one campus.

The Nurse Manager for this role will support the following units: 

The Inpatient Pediatric Acute Care Unit is a 32-bed service designed to provide comprehensive care for pediatric patients from birth through age 21 and into young adulthood. Services include general medical care, led by certified pediatric hospitalists and specialists, as well as surgical services such as general surgery, trauma, orthopedics, urology, neurosurgery, and ear, eye, nose, and throat procedures, among others. The unit offers a holistic, family-centered healing environment supported by an Activity Center led by certified Child Life Specialists. Pediatric support services include social work, discharge planning, Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialists and Nurse Practitioners, pediatric pharmacy and nutrition expertise, and pediatric specialty respiratory therapy. 

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 10-bed unit managed by board-certified pediatric intensivists. The unit is specifically designed with the facilities, equipment, and specialized personnel necessary to provide critical care services for pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients. A full range of pediatric support services is available to PICU patients and their families. The intensivists also provide consultation for pain management, sedation, and total parenteral nutrition. 

Pediatric Ambulatory Surgery Unit (PASU) is a 14-bed unit that accommodates scheduled and elective surgical and medical procedures for pediatric patients. Services include pre-procedural screening and care, as well as post-operative Level II recovery. The unit supports a broad range of pediatric procedures, including general surgery, ophthalmologic procedures, urologic procedures, gastroenterological procedures such as endoscopy and gastroscopy, ear, nose, and throat surgeries, orthopedic surgeries, and infusions.

 

 

 

 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required. 
  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Business, Health Management or other related field preferred. 
  • ANCC recognized nursing specialty certification preferred. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in an acute care setting required, pediatric care strongly preferred
  • 2-3 years' experience in leadership role, in pediatric/maternal/neonatal specialty strongly preferred
  • Demonstration of progressive nursing leadership in roles for example Charge Nurse, Assistant Clinical Manager, House Manager, Clinical Coordinator, Clinical Unit Leader and Chairperson of a Shared Governance Council/Committee or interdisciplinary team (not limited to these examples). 
  • Knowledge of quality management and service excellence. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills that provide coaching and facilitation expertise. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills. Demonstrates innovative, creative leadership style. 

     

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES: 

  • Current license to practice in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse. 
  • BCLS/ACLS certification as required per unit standards.
