Role Description The Occupational Therapy Assistant is a full-time, on-site role located in Baton Rouge, LA. This role supports licensed occupational therapists in implementing treatment plans, providing direct patient care, and assisting with therapeutic activities that promote functional independence and developmental progress. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing treatment environments, guiding children and some adult clients through individual and group therapy sessions, documenting services and progress, and communicating with families and caregivers about therapeutic strategies. The Occupational Therapy Assistant also collaborates with the broader therapy and preschool team, assists with home programs, and helps maintain a safe, engaging, and supportive clinical setting.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess skills in Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation to support evidence-based treatment plans and functional skill development.
- Candidates should possess strong Patient Care and Home Care skills to ensure compassionate, family-centered support and effective carryover of therapy strategies outside the clinic.
- Candidates should possess Program Development skills to assist in planning, adapting, and improving therapy activities and group programs for pediatric clients.
- Current licensure or certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA/COTA) in Louisiana, or eligibility to obtain it.
- Experience or strong interest in pediatric therapy and working with children who have developmental, physical, or sensory challenges.
- Effective communication, documentation, and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with therapists, educators, and families.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries, follow clinical protocols, and uphold ethical and safety standards in a pediatric setting.
- CPR/First Aid certification and familiarity with therapeutic equipment and adaptive tools are beneficial.
