Purpose Statement/Position Summary

The Medical Assistant/Patient Services Representative is responsible for positive patient relations, proper telephone communication, verification of patient information by interviewing patient and confirming purpose of visit. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for preparing the patients for examinations by performing preliminary physical tests, and reporting patient history summary. Patient Service Responsibility will be responsible for appointment scheduling, and to perform duties associated with the collection and maintenance of current patient demographics and insurance information. 

Essential Functions and Job Duties
Patient Care:

Patient Care: 

Assist in preparing patients for examinations, which includes placing patients in examination rooms, completing and documenting thorough medical histories and performing preliminary eye testing including but not limited to stereovision, pupils, eye pressure, confrontation visual fields, and vision testing as appropriate for age. Facilitates efficient patient flow during clinic.

Testing and Procedures: They conduct basic eye tests as above, as well as lensometry (reading glasses), and autorefraction. They administer eye medications. They assist ophthalmologists during in-office procedures, which may involve preparing instruments and ensuring the exam room is ready for patient care. 

Equipment Handling: Use various ophthalmic instruments such as autorefractors and lensometers, to help assess patients' eye health and vision. Performs ophthalmology-specific diagnostic tests as directed by the physician, including but not limited to a scan, b scan, visual field, fundus photography, and OCT. Help maintain equipment and ensure they are working properly.

Patient Education: They educate patients on proper eye care for certain common conditions designated by the physicians, as well as how to care for contact lenses and eyeglasses. Provide instructions for post-operative care when necessary.

Administrative Duties

 

Independently manages patient check-in and check-out procedures, including payment collection and reconciliation.

Maintains patient demographic and insurance information in the CS-Link system, ensuring high accuracy and data integrity.

Schedules and coordinates patient appointments effectively to ensure smooth patient flow. Maintains knowledge & understanding of scheduling protocols, guidelines & standard operating procedures.

Analyzes and understands complex healthcare insurance benefits to assess patients’ out-of-pocket expenses and authorization requirements.

Manages providers schedules, handling all changes and patient/provider correspondence.

Takes accountability for own clinical and professional growth based on evaluation and feedback.  In collaboration with leadership, sets realistic and measurable goals for performance plan.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience
1 year experience in pediatrics preferred.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.

Education/Licensure/Certification
Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program required.
California Medical Assistant certification preferred. AHA CPR required.

Salary : $20 - $32
