What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aftercare Counselor position at Pediatric Advancement?
Overview
We’re looking for a caring and reliable Aftercare Counselor to join our team and support children outside of the classroom. In this role, you’ll help create a safe and positive environment where kids feel supported, valued, and encouraged to grow. You’ll guide behavior, provide emotional support, and assist with tutoring and engaging activities. You will be responsible for a small group of children with a 1:10 staff-to-student ratio.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support a group of up to 10 children during after-school hours
- Provide tutoring and homework assistance as needed
- Encourage positive behavior and support children’s social and emotional growth
- Lead simple activities such as games, crafts, or group play
- Communicate any concerns or updates with parents and staff
Qualifications
- Experience working with children (after school care, tutoring, etc.)
- Strong classroom management and behavior support skills
- Understanding of child development and age-appropriate practices
- Ability to handle emergencies and provide basic first aid if needed
- Comfortable working with children with different needs and behaviors
- Strong communication skills with both children and adults
