Job Title: Membership Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: President/CEO
Summary of Position: The Membership Manager is responsible for the growth, engagement, onboarding, and retention of Chamber membership, with primary emphasis on new member experience and long-term relationship management. This role leads all inbound membership recruitment, serves as the primary point of contact for new members, and plays a key role in executing retention strategies to ensure continued member value and satisfaction.
The Membership Manager works collaboratively with staff and volunteers to strengthen member relationships, drive engagement, and maintain a thriving, connected Chamber community.
This is a professional, salaried position not subject to overtime pay requirements. It requires self-supervision, policy implementation leadership and work beyond the context of an eight-hour day without additional compensation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages membership development programs
- Develops, maintains, and grows total membership of the Chamber
- Encourages and engages membership participation in Chamber events and on Committees
- Coordinates contacts of staff and volunteers with new and existing members
- Develops ways to involve members in Chamber activities, events, and committees
KEY AREAS OF WORK ARE:
Membership Recruitment & Onboarding
- Serves as the primary point of contact for all inbound membership inquiries, responding promptly and professionally.
- Manages all aspects of new member onboarding, including answering questions, processing payments, sending welcome materials, and ensuring a smooth start.
- Meets with new members to review benefits and identify engagement opportunities.
- Coordinates and schedules Ribbon Cuttings, ensuring information is added to the website and internal calendars.
- Develops, maintains and grows total membership of the Chamber
Member Retention & Engagement
- Manages and contributes to the Chamber’s membership retention plan through ongoing outreach and relationship management.
- Conducts regular in-person visits, phone calls, and email outreach to existing members; documents all contact efforts.
- Identifies opportunities to improve member engagement, satisfaction, and renewals.
Programs and Committees
- Serves as staff liaison for the Ambassador Committee, including recruitment, meetings, and coordination of ambassador activities.
- Manages and coordinates the Chamber’s First Fridays monthly networking program.
- Coordinates and supports the Chamber’s Member Orientation.
- Schedules and participates in Ribbon Cuttings and member engagement activities as assigned.
- Contributes ideas to all programs to meet needs of members
Finance & Budget
Coordinates a variety of program budget preparation and submits recommended budgets and revisions to President/CEO. Includes consultations with other staff. Review budgets for each program and makes recommendations, if appropriate.
Marketing & Communications
- Works closely with Director of Events, Vice President and Program Coordinator on design and distribution of materials
- Ensures Chamber’s database includes accurate information of membership and prospects
Other Essential Functions:
- Assists the President in establishing and developing committees to carry out the goals of the Chamber.
- Prepares minutes of all committee meetings for which he or she is responsible.
- Maintains files for above events/committees
- Attends Chamber Board and Committee meetings as necessary to share and receive information
STAFF RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FOLLOWING SPECIFIC PROJECTS:
Membership Appreciation Events
- Coordinates, along with the Director of Events, events to engage members.
First Friday
- Coordinates, along with the Program Coordinator and the Director of Events, the Chamber’s monthly networking event
Administrative:
- Telephones - Answer telephones as needed.
- Administrative Support - Provides additional administrative support as needed in the office and be willing to assist other staff members on any and all projects as needed.
- Other duties - as assigned
Other General Areas:
- Understand and adhere to the policies set forth by the Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct
- Practice exceptional customer service and teamwork at all times.
- Serve as a team player on the Chamber of Commerce staff and assist with other Chamber projects as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field or equivalent professional experience, with demonstrated success in customer service, client relations, or member-focused roles.
- Experience in membership-based organizations, hospitality, sales, or community engagement roles preferred.
- Prior experience in non-profits, associations, or business is a plus.
- Ability to navigate diverse personalities, resolve concerns effectively, and represent the organization with a service-oriented, solutions-focused approach.
TECHNICAL:
- Excellent public speaking, research and writing skills
- Proficient knowledge of computer systems, specifically in MS Office products, and CRM software.
- Outstanding time management skills
- Ability to communicate – verbal, non-verbal and listening skills with volunteers, members, peers, and coworkers.
- Supervisory skills – ability to plan, organize, and delegate
- Occasional lifting and carrying of less than 25 pounds.
- $50,000 salary with potential for annual bonus
