Overview of role:   

The Designer II (DII) is responsible for creating industry leading design solutions for apparel and products from concept to reality. This position requires strong innovative problem-solving skills met with an iconic design aesthetic. The DII will support in developing a culture of creativity, design excellence, accountability, and results. This individual understands design language and excels in applying it to product lines while achieving goals and criteria outlined in the planning phase. This individual possesses the knowledge of our sport and its consumers; and continuously seeks to understand future consumers and their needs. As a team member in design, the DII is tasked in creating, tracing, organizing and proofing product related information.  As directed by the design management team, the DII will provide computer data and illustration skills for seasonal design projects to include aesthetic, function, materials and color choice.  This DII is responsible for communicating category related product information to internal departments. This individual will work with team members to ensure that calendar deadlines are met to reach organizational goals. The Designer II will be expected to take the lead on initiatives from conception to completion as well as special projects.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Priority spent coordinating and managing technical design sketches and technical package information for all assigned designs; and managing through completion.
  • Manage assigned product lines to include aesthetic, experience, color execution, and merchandising.
  • Uncover, share, and employ insights from trend, market, field use, and consumer behavior.
  • Partner with product team members to identify fabric direction for specific categories and products with a lens for performance, sustainability, and aesthetic.
  • Work closely with development and merch partners through an iterative prototyping process to reach production ready product.
  • Assist in the build out of design presentations for key gates and milestones.
  • Work closely with internal and external designers in ensuring aesthetic cohesion across product categories.
  • Lead, support, and execute off-calendar projects related to SMU’s (Special Make-up) and advanced projects.  
  • Assist as a resource for all category specific design and development related information including prototype development status, features, fabric, trim and color details.
  • Support in updating technical sketches for all design team members.
  • Champion product design excellence in all aspects of the role.
  • Responsible for taking part in concept meetings and design reviews.
  • Travel as necessary for design related support, presentation, and research. 

 

Job Qualifications:  

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in apparel design in the cycling/outdoor apparel industry. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Apparel Design, Industrial Design, or related field.  
  • Engineering experience spanning performance garments made fit to a body in motion to structured lifestyle silhouettes preferred.
  • Experience working with multiple high-end materials. 
  • Possess broad knowledge of apparel product development and garment construction.
  • Manages own priorities and workload to complete the required tasks.
  • Works well under moderate supervision.  
  • Honest, dependable team player with strong communication skills and the ability to work under extremely tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, repetitive work; along with ability to follow specific instruction. 
  • Ability to work well within cross functional teams. 
  • Expected to have design intelligence and business acumen.
  • Thorough understanding of the below referenced software systems. 
    • Microsoft Office

    • In-Design
    • Photoshop
    • PowerPoint
    • Keynote
    • Acrobat
  • Experience with 3D apparel design a plus.
  • Self-Starter
