What are the responsibilities and job description for the Infant/Toddler Assistant Teacher position at Peaks Island Children's Workshop?
The Peaks Island Children's Workshop (PICW), a small childcare center licensed for 20 children, is looking for a caring and fun team-player to join our small staff. The assistant teacher works in close collaboration with the lead teacher. We are currently looking for both full and part-time positions within the Infant/Toddler classroom. There is some flexibility in hours, days, and opportunity for more hours for the right candidate. We are also able to be flexible based on the boat schedule, as we are located on Peaks Island. We pay for all ferry tickets.
At the Workshop, we hope to provide for a warm, inviting, and supportive professional environment, and all work closely with one another as a small staff of 6 people. Opportunity for training and professional development is offered.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing lesson plans, educational activities, and providing daily care
- Provide direct care, support, and supervision to students in the infant/toddler classroom (aged 6 weeks to 2 years, although help with our preschool classroom of children ages 2.5 to 4 may be asked for)
- Provide attentive, loving care in a safe, engaging environment
- Assist with classroom management and behavior management strategies
- Assist with the implementation of age-appropriate activities to support early development
- Help maintain a clean and safe classroom environment
- Collaborate with the lead teacher and other teaching staff to maintain high-quality care
-Help with snack preparation, kitchen clean up, and end of day cleaning
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children, such as nannying, preschool, babysitting, or daycare experience
- Strong classroom management skills
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques
- Familiarity with infant care and early childhood education principles
- A passion for working with children and helping them learn and grow
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
