Position Summary:
The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for performing general maintenance and repair duties to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and proper functioning of the facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for performing general maintenance and repair duties to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and proper functioning of the facility. This includes assisting with preventative maintenance, responding to work orders, maintaining grounds, and supporting compliance with safety regulations and standards such as Life Safety Code, OSHA, and local building codes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in routine inspections, maintenance, and repair of facility systems including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical equipment.
- Complete work orders and maintenance logs in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the building exterior and grounds, including landscaping, snow/ice removal, and trash pickup.
- Help ensure fire safety systems (fire alarms, extinguishers, emergency lighting) are functional and properly inspected.
- Support compliance with Life Safety and emergency preparedness standards.
- Report maintenance needs or safety hazards to the Maintenance Director promptly.
- Assist with room turnovers, including minor repairs, painting, and furniture assembly.
- Maintain and safely operate tools and equipment.
- Provide on-call coverage for emergency maintenance issues as assigned.
- Support infection control practices by ensuring proper maintenance of sanitation systems and waste management.
- Assist with inventory and supply ordering for maintenance-related materials.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1-2 years of experience in general maintenance, preferably in a healthcare or commercial setting.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
- Ability to work independently and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and problem-solving skills.
- Must pass background check and drug screening.
- Experience in a nursing home, hospital, or other healthcare facility.
- Familiarity with NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code) and CMS maintenance regulations.
