Position Overview

Heritage Grove Estates is seeking dependable, compassionate, and resident-focused Certified Medication Aides (CMAs) to join our nursing team.

The Certified Medication Aide is responsible for assisting with medication administration within their authorized scope of practice and under appropriate licensed nursing supervision. In addition to medication responsibilities, the CMA provides direct resident care and assists with activities of daily living to promote resident comfort, dignity, independence, and overall well-being.

This position requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, and a commitment to medication safety. The CMA works collaboratively with licensed nursing staff and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure each resident receives individualized, high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities

Medication Administration & Safety

  • Administer medications within the CMA's authorized scope of practice and under appropriate licensed nursing supervision
  • Follow provider orders, medication administration records (MARs), and established facility procedures
  • Follow established medication administration procedures and appropriate medication-safety practices
  • Accurately document medications administered according to facility requirements
  • Report medication concerns, refusals, omissions, errors, or other medication-related issues immediately to the supervising licensed nurse
  • Observe residents for potential changes or concerns following medication administration and report findings to licensed nursing staff
  • Maintain appropriate security and handling of medications in accordance with facility procedures
  • Follow established procedures related to medication storage, documentation, and accountability
  • Communicate medication-related questions or concerns to the supervising licensed nurse


Resident Care & Activities of Daily Living

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, personal hygiene, and feeding
  • Assist with resident mobility, transfers, ambulation, positioning, and repositioning according to individualized care plans
  • Provide toileting and incontinence care while maintaining resident dignity and privacy
  • Assist residents during meals and provide feeding assistance as needed
  • Respond promptly and professionally to resident call lights and requests for assistance
  • Encourage residents to maintain the highest practical level of independence
  • Provide care in accordance with individualized resident preferences and established plans of care
  • Help maintain resident comfort, cleanliness, and safety throughout the shift


Observation & Communication

  • Obtain and document vital signs and other assigned measurements as appropriate
  • Observe residents for changes in physical condition, behavior, cognition, mood, appetite, mobility, or overall well-being
  • Promptly report changes in resident condition to the supervising licensed nurse
  • Communicate clearly with nursing staff regarding resident needs and concerns
  • Participate in shift communication and resident-care updates as appropriate
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with residents, families, visitors, and interdisciplinary team members


Documentation & Care Coordination

  • Complete medication and resident-care documentation accurately and within established timeframes
  • Follow individualized resident care plans and nursing instructions
  • Maintain accurate documentation of care and services provided
  • Communicate incomplete care, resident refusals, or identified concerns to the supervising nurse
  • Collaborate with RNs, LPNs, CNAs, therapy, dietary, activities, and other team members to support continuity of care
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident health information and records


Resident Rights & Quality of Life

  • Treat every resident with compassion, dignity, patience, and respect
  • Protect resident privacy and confidentiality
  • Promote resident choice, independence, preferences, and individuality
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries
  • Support a resident-centered environment where residents feel safe, respected, and cared for
  • Immediately report concerns involving resident safety, abuse, neglect, exploitation, or inappropriate treatment according to facility procedures


Infection Prevention & Safety

  • Follow established infection prevention and control practices
  • Perform appropriate hand hygiene and utilize personal protective equipment as required
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe resident environment
  • Follow appropriate transfer, mobility, fall-prevention, and resident-safety procedures
  • Safely use mechanical lifts and other resident-care equipment according to training
  • Immediately report accidents, incidents, injuries, hazards, or safety concerns
  • Follow emergency procedures and assist appropriately during emergency situations


Teamwork & Professionalism

  • Work collaboratively with licensed nurses, CNAs, fellow CMAs, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Maintain dependable attendance and arrive prepared for assigned shifts
  • Participate in required training, education, competencies, and facility meetings
  • Demonstrate professionalism and accountability in daily responsibilities
  • Accept coaching and feedback and demonstrate a willingness to learn
  • Assist team members when appropriate to support resident care and facility operations
  • Perform additional responsibilities within the employee's authorized role as assigned


Qualifications

  • Active Kansas Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification in good standing, as required for the position
  • Active Kansas Medication Aide certification in good standing
  • Ability to safely perform medication-related responsibilities within the authorized scope of practice
  • Ability to provide compassionate, resident-centered care to individuals with varying physical, cognitive, and psychosocial needs
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to medication safety
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • Commitment to resident rights, safety, confidentiality, and quality care
  • Previous skilled nursing, long-term care, senior living, or healthcare experience preferred
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
